004 : CRUEL NEW WORLD*

part three

MICHELANGELO DECIDED he shouldn't be alone after the conversation he'd just narrowly avoided having with his uncle. This mixed with wanting to get to know this new area he now lives in better gave the fifteen year old the idea to go for a walk around the south side, alone.

Making up his mind the boy grabbed his phone and locked the trailer from the inside as he set out into the world.

There was an edge of danger to the air in the south side of Riverdale that Michelangelo wasn't used to.

The area may have looked like his old home in Greendale but the dangers were far worse.

Unaware of the organized crime all around him Michelangelo just kept his eyes peeled to learn his way around.

He had always been the type of kid to be out in the neighborhood rather than home. Granted that was because being on the streets had been much safer for him than being home with his mom.

The sun had already been going down before Angelo had even set foot outside so it was relatively dark now, however the boy didn't feel like he was in danger. Having his phone on him gave him a false sense of security.

Michelangelo was curious as to why just about every storefront he passed was locked up or had plywood in their windows, but he was loving all the colorful graffiti everywhere.

This was a good idea, he decided. This walk had really helped him to clear his mind and he was feeling better already, he just hoped his uncle wouldn't bring up his home life again.

Angelo had never told anyone what happened behind closed doors no one had ever even asked where all his injuries came from before, or maybe no one had ever cared to ask.

Thinking back to his life in Greendale Angelo had never made any close connections. The only people he talked to were the other members of the basketball team and even that never went beyond cordial.

His coach said that he was gifted, the youngest on the varsity team at fifteen. He guessed he just got good because of the public basketball court in his neighborhood where he would spend hours a day playing with whoever else was there. He never even owned his own basketball and he wouldn't have tried out for the team if the Greendale school district didn't require an extracurricular for all highschool students.
