"What was that about?" I asked Mason quietly.
"Um," Mason started, "talking about his parents has been a touchy subject since..." He held a long pause and sighed, "since his parents died."
"I understand." I replied softly. The memories of my mom and dad's death rushed through my mind. The earthy pine smell of the forest mixed with the foul sent of rotting flesh, and the ground moist from the dark blood scalding in the sunlight. My parents were bitten and screaming for me to leave, and go find my uncle to take me away, before they can hurt me. I ran into the forest, the biters following after me. Low hanging tree branches scratched at my numb cheeks, trailing warm blood down the sides of my face.
My feet thudded the ground and I was totally oblivious to the long tree root sticking out of the ground. I tripped over the root and twisted my ankle. I cried out in pain and limped a yard towards a tree, before I collapsed again.
I laid limply in the snow as tears fell down my numb cheeks. The groaning of biter noises started to get closer; I backed into a bush and took out my pistol. Two biters came out of the brush, and started to look around for me. I whimpered and slowly backed to the end of the bush until my back hit a tree.
Stay calm Camille, stay calm, I told my self. I cocked my pistol and aimed at the two biters that rushed out of the shady canopy of trees. I shot the pair quickly, averting my eyes as their bodies dropped to the ground, grumbling sounds fading. I crouched down, examining the two biters, only to realize my parents were laying dead in front of me. There voices filled my head "Camille, Camille" they chanted. Their voices morphed into a familiar voice.
"Camille!" I quickly snapped back into reality and looked at Mason, who was calling my name. I tried to blink away the painful memory. "Right," I said, "Lets go get Julian."

I'm so sorry I haven't updated in almost a year! I have been thinking of what I want to include in this book and the next ones, plus school work pulled on I haven't had much time to work. This was a short flashback chapter I know, but the next ones will have some action I promise. Thanks ~C
