Prologue
The fire burned bright, whipping out in different directions. The Alkonost tribe were in groups huddling close together to provide better heat for one another. All conversations died down as everyone who was sitting, rose to greet Samuel. Behind him came his only daughter huddled away from the many strangers. The young girl was only two years of age.
"Silence," Samuel roared.
Only the crackling of the fire and sometimes a wailing baby was heard. "As many of you may know, the time of the Aluimouni is almost upon us. The call of the Pixies is to be heard. Dancing and feasting to honor these creatures, and all they have done for us. They have helped us live this long, and will continue to help us thrive."
A series of cheers rang throughout the crowd. "There are many new people with us this year, one of the biggest batches yet. Including my daughter. The future leader of our people."
Samuel's daughter was certainly a unique one. Fiery red hair, pale skin, many freckles, and abnormal eyes. One eye was a brilliant bright green that were always assessing the world around her.
The other eye was mysterious. A pure reflective silver. She was born with her eye like this. A lot of questions were asked, but none of them could be answered.
They said that she was the sorceress they were waiting for. The one that would restore peace between the rivalry tribes, the Aranachi and the Alkonost.
A low snarl echoed throughout the cave. Eyes grew wide with fear. Bodies went rigid. Mother's hurried to hush their newborns. All eyes landed on the mouth of the cave where a great beast lurked.
The wolf stood at least 5 feet tall on all four paws. Crouched down, teeth bared, ears flat, eyes glowing in the subtle fire light. He snarled again, signally that he was raging mad. Half white and half black, signifying that he was not an ordinary wolf, He was a member of the Aranachi tribe. Rather than the two tribes being allies, they were each others worst enemy. All eyes were averted to the ground as the wolf stood up, slowly turning into human formation.
"What do you want Raphael?" Samuel lashed out at his younger half-brother from born his mother.
"Easy there brother," Raphael remarked.
Samuel's eyes narrowed. "Answer the question."
Raphael smirked. "The girl. I want to see the girl."
Gasps were heard throughout the crowd. The little girl, peeked out cautiously from behind her father's leg. "Come to your uncle young one," Raphael called out to her.
"Uncle?" her quiet voice questioned in disbelief.
Samuel sighed, still angry at his brother, but smiled down at his little angel. "Yes love. This man here is your uncle."
The girl grinned her little grin, at the thought of having another family member. "Fawthew? Me meet uncle?" she was not able to pronounce her R's yet.
Samuel grimaced, but one look at his daughter made him change his mind. "Up you go," he said, as he hoisted her up on to his hip. As they made their way closer to Raphael, Samuel whispered in his ear, "Do anything, and you are dead meat."
Raphael smiled nervously as he was handed the child. Samuel grinned at his reaction. "You never answered the original question brother," the word was like poison in his mouth.
"I want revenge," the word was music to Raphael's ears.
Samuel's face contorted in confusion, "Revenge for what? For being Father's favorite?"
That's when Raphael broke. He handed off the child to a man that no one had even paid attention to before. "He was never your father. He was mine!" he was now raging mad.
Samuel just ignored his brother, as he wanted to continue on pissing him off. "Well how do you propose to get revenge?" he stretched out the last word.
Raphael smirked. "Ah my dear brother. That is where this little one comes in." he gestured to the man who now had the girl captive. A knife was held close to her throat.
Samuel went to step forward. "Take one more step and she is gone," Raphael threatened.
Samuel retreated back a step.
"Fawthew?" the girl whispered, shaking with fear.
"Shush little one," Raphael smiled wickedly "I have some business to settle with your father."
"What are you going to do with her?" Samuel asked worriedly.
"Hmm. Well since you stole my father from me. I am going to take your daughter from you. You see, in my tribe, in order to keep peace with our enemies, the Pixies, we have to make a great sacrifice. And I think that this little one," he jerked a thumb in the direction of the girl, "Will be perfect."
A shaking gasp came from Samuel, "No!"
Raphael just shook his head, "I will make you a deal then dear brother. seeing that she is too young anyway. I will be back in 10 years for her. That I promise."
Samuel took a glance around at his people. "And if the promise is not kept?" he asked hesitantly.
Raphael chuckled, "Then everyone standing in this cave is dead to me, including you and your precious daughter."
Raphael turned around and signalled the man that had the girl captive to let her go. "Remember your promise." and with that, he and the man was gone.
