Jeongin stayed quiet for a few seconds, questioning if he really did hear Chan right. Chan sighed, then pulled the chair before Jeongin's desk and sat facing the younger.
"What? Didn't hear me?" asked Chan as he lifted a brow. He rested his chin on his palm and waited for an answer.
Jeongin fumbled before finally locking eyes with Chan. ".. You want me to stay after school..? Today..?"
"Why are you so horrified? It's not like I'm going to kill you, you know?" Chan frowned, although he could understand just why Jeongin wouldn't want to spend time alone with him. "We're friends anyway."
The words seemed to bounce off Jeongin's ears while he was lost in a train of thoughts. Chan observed his features for a moment, itching with the urge to reach out and brush the soft raven strands off Jeongin's face.
"Or will your parents scold you? Is that why you look so troubled?" Chan asked, his voice quieter this time.
Jeongin nodded to either sides. "I don't live with my parents.. They're in Busan."
"Then what is it? You hate me that much?"
Jeongin quickly nodded another no, this time his hair swaying to both sides. "I don't- I mean.. It's not you.."
"Oh~" Chan chuckled and leaned forward, clearly enjoying Jeongin's flustered reaction. "So you like me?"
A visible blush adorned Jeongin's soft cheeks as he looked away. "I didn't say that Chan."
Chan couldn't lie, he was loving the sight. But of course, he would never say it out loud. "Alright, alright. Now what's the matter?"
"I must tell Hyunjin.."
Chan's features crinkled into a frown. "The jimmy person, huh? Is it that tall boy you often meet?"
Jeongin nodded, then a small sigh escaped his lips. "He's my boyfriend.."
Oh hell no. Chan clenched his teeth at the words. "Well then, he doesn't have to find out. And I hate him, for some reason."
Jeongin released an airy giggle, which Chan somewhat wished he could hear longer. "You hate him? You don't even know him.."
"That's-"
"And yes, he'll find out. I live with him so.."
"Oh."
Jeongin peered into Chan's face. "That's a funny expression.."
Chan glared at the other, causing Jeongin's chuckle to freeze midway. "Text your boyfriend you'll be staying back today." He said as he stood up to leave. "Or I'll kidnap you, get it?"
Before he walked away, he shot a smirk at Jeongin, who couldn't tell if Chan was being serious or not.

By the time Jeongin reached the empty basketball court, he was bent over, out of breath. He spotted Chan lying down on the bleachers and made his way to his side.
"You could've told me you'd be here.." whined Jeongin.
Chan opened his eyes to see a very pouty Jeongin with black strands sticking to his forehead. The sight was heavenly, he had to admit. He sat up and gestured for the younger to take a seat, to which Jeongin obliged.
"Did you send the dude away?" Chan asked, leaning back.
"Hyunjin wants me home before 4 pm though.."
"Okay."
After a moment of silence, Jeongin looked at Chan, who stared at nothing in particular. "Why did you ask me to stay back..?" Jeongin spoke up.
In his head, Chan cursed not only Felix, but also the stupid rule for the day.
"RULE 3:
Make him comfortable with you.
Make him open up. [Not the way
you're thinking, you pervert.]
(Wednesday)"The first part Chan thought was simpler, since Jeongin didn't seem too scared around him after two entire days of hanging out. But, to make him 'open up' wasn't an easy task. All because Chan didn't know how it must be done.
Chan sighed, still looking ahead, although he could sense Jeongin's gaze on him. "Just so we can spend time together." He replied calmly.
Jeongin didn't give an immediate response. He played with his fingers, fiddling with the front hem of his rosy sweater.
"I.. I don't understand." Jeongin mumbled, his voice quiet and soft.
Chan shifted his gaze to the younger, whose conflicted eyes stayed fixed onto his lap. He waited for Jeongin to continue.
"Last week, at this time, I'd be struggling to walk a few steps after you beat me up.. And you really, really hated me.. N-Now you say we're friends-" Jeongin stopped as soon as his voice cracked, biting down on his lips. He didn't dare look to his right, afraid his words would've angered the older.
Chan listened quietly, observing Jeongin's fragile side profile. Although they were about the same height, Jeongin had a smaller frame that now appeared a lot more precious to Chan. So small and protectable, but also so easily breakable. And a part of Chan momentarily twisted with regrets that he had only chosen to break this boy until now.
"Would you rather be treated that way?" Chan voiced softly, his words causing Jeongin to immediately shake his head to both sides.
"No.. I was only confused.."
"Do you like spending time with me?"
Jeongin stole a glance at Chan, who returned his gaze with unreadable eyes. Yet Jeongin sensed some kind of warmth, swirls of feelings he wished Chan wouldn't forget.
"I like being with you.." whispered Jeongin timidly.
"Then don't think too much about it alright?"
Jeongin nodded slowly. Chan placed his hand on the boy's fluffy hair and tousled the raven strands. "Good boy."
