We arrived on scene. The man was dead with his severed penis stuffed into his mouth. Seven bullets were in his head. Our killer had struck again. He was a cunning killer. This killing was more savage than the others. We knew he was escalating.

"Wow," I said.

"This guy is a psychopath. He must of been molested as a kid. All of his victims are pedofiles. This one seems personal," Detective Kimball announced to the CSI team.

"Yes he is escalating; however, this is his first kill in 3 years," I stated.

"I can see his warped sense of justice. This man was convicted of seven counts of rape to his neighbor's child. One bullet for each rape," he declared.

"That's true," I agreed.

"Maybe we should just turn a blind eye to these killings. After all justice is blind isn't it?" He joked.

"It's not the time for jokes Kimbal. This is a very serious crime. The level of violence is disturbing. These men may have molested kids, but they didn't deserve this," I solemnly asserted.

"What if it had been your kid?" He asked.

"I would do the same," I said.

"Exactly," he remarked.

He had a valid point. His words held me back. Just like the crime scene tape held back the crowd of nosey citizens. The angry officer warned them to stand back. One man was arrested for obstruction of justice. He shoved his way nearly inside trying to take a photo of the mutilated corpse. The idiot was tackled and arrested. People are a sick breed. They want to see murder and death as if life was a tv show. There's no entertainment value in homocide. Murder is just a sick fetish held by weird people.

I had been a police officer for 13 years. I had never seen a crime like this. I'd never chased a serial killer before. I'd caught some murderers in my time. They were on this playing field. I was astonished by his ability to evade us. This killer was brilliant. In a strange way I admired his work despite my own super ego. I knew we would catch him eventually. To be honest a part of me didn't want him to be caught. Detective Kimball had made a good point. A point that haunted me for a long while.
