Chapter 6

Riley's POV

I woke up on the couch in my living room. I felt an arm draped around my waist. I turned my head and saw Phoenix laying next to me with his arm on my waist. I moved a bit and he just pulled me closer into his chest.

I stayed there until he woke up about ten minutes later. I turned around and faced him.

"Morning sleepy head." I smiled at him.

'Morning.' He mouthed and smiled back.

"Want breakfast?" I asked. He nodded and I got up from the couch.

I walked into the kitchen and pulled out some mixing bowls and measuring spoons. Then I pulled out some ingredients to make pancakes from scratch.

About Fifteen minutes later, I had made the batter and made five pancakes. Phoenix walked in and sat at the counter and waited patiently for me to place a stack of 3 pancakes in front of him. He smiled and signed 'thank you' before stuffing his face. I just laughed.

After we finished our pancakes, we went back into the living room and sat on the couch.

"So, Phoenix, ready to tell me why you were upset?" I asked softly. He nodded hesitantly.

'Actually, can I write it in a letter, and then give it to you?' He signed.

"If it's easier, sure," I said and smiled.

'Thank you.' He smiled back.

"So, what do you wanna do?"

'Let's watch TV.' I nodded and turned on the TV. It was The Amazing World Of Gumball.

After we watched that, we watched Ridiculousness. I absolutely LOVE Rob Dyrdek!

After watching a pretty girl belch like a man, we turned off the TV and just sat.

We sat in a comfortable silence until I heard a car in the driveway.

Oh no! It's my dad!

"Uh, Phoenix, I think my dad is home. So, brace yourself." I told Phoenix.

-Phoenix's POV-

Ah, shit!

I've never met a girl's parents or parent before. What if he thinks I'm weird since I don't talk? I'm freaking out man!

Breath, Phoenix, breath! Ugh! I sound like a girl about to go on her first date.

Just then, the door opened and in walked a tall young looking guy, whom I'm assuming isn't Riley's dad.

"Hey, Ri! How are y- who's that?" He asked, pointing at me.

"Mike! I missed you!" Riley yelled, jumping off the couch and giving Mike a hug.

"I missed you too! Now, who is that?" He pointed to me again, after Riley stepped back.

"Mike, this is Phoenix. Phoenix, this is my big brother, Mike." She explained.

"Hey, man. I'm Mike, nice to meet you." He said walking over and holding out his hand. I shook it and nodded, silent what upping him.

"Oh, right. Mike, Phoenix doesn't talk. He's mute." Riley said when Mike gave her a confused look.

"Oh, ok. Hey, where's dad?"

"Probably with his new girlfriend, Julie," Riley replied, disgust thick in her voice.

"I take it you don't particularly like Julie."

"Well, you know how it is whenever he finds another woman. This woman happens to look ten years younger than him."

"WHAT!? TEN YEARS?!" Mike yelled.

"Yeah. It pisses me off. I caught them making out and when I slammed the door, he didn't even notice."

"Well, he's a douche at the moment." Riley nodded.

I cleared my throat to get Riley's attention. She turned her head towards me and so did Mike.

'I should go now. I'll see you on Monday.' I signed. She nodded.

"Ok, I'll text you later. Okay?"

I nodded and then walked out the door to my car.

-Riley's POV-

After Phoenix left, I and Mike sat on the couch.

"So, do you have a boyfriend now?" Mike asked, smirking.

"No, Mike, no I don't," I replied smiling.

"Who are you thinking about?"

"This guy I met earlier today. I got one of those massive headaches and passed out. He brought me to the nurse's office. He was really sweet!" I said, blushing and smiling.

"What's his name?"

"Kian."

"What about Phoenix? Do you like him, like in that way?"

"Oh, no! He's just my new best friend. That's it."

"Suuuure." He said smirking. "For now." He whispered, yet I heard him.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing." He said quickly.

"Riiight."
