In the end, Elenore bought the baby doll for $65, although Vine was more than happy to accept $20. If there was any trouble with the doll, Vine gave Elenore his number, but although the doll was perfect Elenore and Vine would call each other every day. They started dating soon after and Elenore could hardly stand to be without him for more than a week. He truly did love her, and she with him. It seemed there was nothing that could tear those two apart.
But as soon as her family found out, Elenore started receiving disgusting rumors about Vine that were completely untrue: such as him being a poor scavenger, a fraud, and even a murderer. Vine begged Elenore to leave him, as he didn't want to upset her or her family, but Elenore stood her ground and eventually her old friends got dragged into the mix. One in particular, Prim, actually flew to New York and tried to convince Elenore to come home with her.
"That man...there's something dodgy about him," she said. "I don't think you should trust him. He could hurt you or kill you. Please, come back home and let your parents chose a suitor."
"Absolutely not," Elenore snapped. "I love Vine, and he loves me. He's a good man, just leave him alone!" And she'd slammed the door in Prim's face.

The next morning, Elenore was expecting Prim to come back with an apology, but she didn't. She didn't call Elenore at all the entire day, even though she'd promised to. Elenore was concerned, but she had Vine to comfort and console her.
However, later in the evening, when they were sitting on Elenore's couch watching old horror movies, their night was interrupted by an emergency news broadcast that broke out in the middle of a scary scene. From there, both watched in curiosity and horror as the news spoke:

"This just in, a young woman was found dead near the St. Pole's Park. Judging by the wounds found on her hands, lips, eyes, hair, and hands, the police have confirmed that she is another victim of the infamous Dollmaker. She is the thirteenth of victims, identified as Primavera Willson. Ms. Willson was visiting her friend Elenore Glow and was last seen exiting Ms. Glow's apartment building. As you can see, by the stitch marks, the position of the wig, and the cautious hand of makeup, this is clearly the hand of the notorious Dollmaker. Citizens are advised to stay indoors and stay in groups until he is caught. Until then, we pray all you folks watching a safe night."

Elenore was in absolute shock and despair. She couldn't believe it; Prim, dead. Mutilated and fancied up into some kind of cruel doll. She wouldn't believe it. She just spent the entire night crying into Vine's comforting arms.
