The bare of my alarm woke me at the usual time of 5:30. I groan and reach out my left arm and smack it on my desk a few times before I finally hit the snooze button. I pull my arm back under my blankets and hug my stuffed hedgehog to my chest sighing peacefully. I'm just starting to drift back to sleep when the annoying box goes off again. I repeat the sleepy action of snoozing it, but am not able to get comfortable again as my mother barges into the room.

"Mija! Es hora de levantarse para la escuela!" she shouts, and when I roll over she has her chancla in hand. "I swear to God if you don't get your ass out of bed right now-" and this is when I tune her yelling out and roll out of my warm, comfy bed.

"Okay, okay, Mamá! I'm up!" I respond pushing her out of my room so I can get dressed.

I shut the door and lock it. I pick out a pink long sleeve sweater and some white jean shorts to go with it. I put it on and pull my curly brown hair into high ponytail, leaving a few strands out to give it a messy affect. I brush on mascara and race out of my room and down the stairs.

"Buenos días, Mija! Dormiste bien?" my father asks me, looking up from his computer to give me a warm smile.

"Sí papá! Y tú?" I respond, walking over to kiss his cheek.

"Así así. Your mother kept kicking me all night" he answers, shooting a cheeky grin in her direction. She flips him off, making us all laugh. I'm served a plate of pancakes, which I scarf down in a hurry.

This is how it is every day. I live what most would consider a perfect life. My Mama is from Cuba and my papa is from Mexico; however, I was born and raised in America. My parents both have very good jobs. My mom is a trauma surgeon at the hospital downtown, and my dad is a psychologist. I plan to go into the medical field when I graduate. My plan is to go into Sports Medicine, however I'm also open to psychology. I'm very good at doctoring and psychology, for my parents have taught me lots. I even volunteer as a nurse at the hospital my mom works. My parents have very high expectations for me and I manage to achieve all of them; although, its very stressful at times.

"Litzy! Tienes que irte a la escuela, ahora mismo! You don't want to be late!" My mother scolds just as I sit down to watch tv.

"Mamá! School doesn't start for another thirty minutes!" I protest.

"Yeah, but it takes ten minutes to get there, and don't you want time to hang out with your friends before school starts?"

I let out a sigh and give her a submissive nod. The truth is: I don't have very many friends. Not many people like me because I'm the nerd brain, know it all try hard. I'm also the runner who sucks at running. I have many bullies, most of whom are on my cross country team. But my parents know none of this and with any luck they never will.

I walk out to my car, a silver Jeep Cherokee, and climb in, tossing my backpack and cross country bag in the back seat. I start the car and turn up the radio; Ironically, the song Turn Up The Radio by Autograph was playing. I pull out of the driveway of our bug suburban house and head to school. The ride was long as usual; its one of the down sides of living just outside the city.

When I arrive at school, I immediately head to my first period class: math class. The day goes on as normal and boring. I don't talk to anyone and no one talks to me. I sit quietly in the back of the classroom and do my work. Lunch rolls around at noon and I sit next to my only friend; her name is Briana. She has blonde hair, brown eyes, and wears small round glasses, kind of like Harry Potter. She's smart like me, but doesn't do any sports. Also, she's anorexic.

"Hey Litz! How's your day been?" she asks as she takes her seat next to me.

I take a bite of my peanut butter and jelly sandwich. "Pretty crappy, as usual!" I respond, giving her a toothless smile. She smiles back, but it doesn't reach her eyes. She looks down at her hands and lets out a sigh.

"Okay, what's wrong?" I ask sternly.

"Nothing," She says half heartedly and so I stare her down. She lets out a sigh before explaining. "I asked him out," she confesses.

My mouth drops open. Kody Martin is the most popular guy in our school; Bri has liked him since the seventh grade. "You did what!"

"I asked him out" She repeats.

I stare at her in shock for a minute. I cant believe she asked him out. "What did he say?"

"He laughed in my face and said 'Fuck no.'"

I wrap my arms around her sympathetically. "What an ass! He could have at least been polite about it. I never liked that guy. He always gave me bad vibes! You can do way better than him," I tell my only friend in an attempt to reassure her.

She shrugs and stares off into space. She doesn't speak again, so the rest of lunch is silent. After lunch, I have my least favorite class: PE. Normally I would love that class, but all the girls on my cross country team and they spend the entire class bullying me. It sucks because its the last class of the day and after words I have to spend another two hours with them at cross country practice.

I change into the ugly grey t-shirt with black spandex shorts and head to the field house where the seniors have PE. Right when I walk in, I spot my three bullies: Vanessa, Nicole, and Taliya. I ignore them and begin walking the length of the track. The teacher arrives soon after and he takes attendance. I notice Vanessa whispering to her friends whilst looking at me, but choose to ignore it.

"Today we will be running the mile!" the teach announces.

I groan along with the rest of the class. I hate running the mile because it gives my cross country team more to tease me about. The fastest I've ever ran it was seven minutes and thirty-seven seconds, but that's nothing compared to their five minute miles. Today I ran it in eight minutes and fifteen seconds. Vanessa and the team were waiting for me at the finish line.

"I can't believe they even let you be on the team! Cant even run an eight minute mile! How pathetic!" Nicole cackles as I keel over to catch my breath.

"Shut up," I gasp out.

"What was that?" Taliya snarls.

"I said shut up!" I yell, standing up straight to face them.

"Who do you think you are!" Vanessa yells, shoving me to the ground.

The class around me gasps and laughs. Their voices and points seem to be in slow motion as I look at them all. Anger bubbles through me, turning my blood cold. I grit my teeth, stand up and punch her square in the jaw. It hurt like hell. She seems to fall in slow motion until she hits the ground; that's when life seems to be back at normal speed. Everyone around us goes silent.

"What the hell!" She yells angrily. This attracts the attention of the teacher who jogs over to us.

"What is going on here!" He demands.

"Litzy punched Vanessa!" Nicole immediately yells.

The teacher immediately turns to me disappointment in his eyes. "Is this true?" he asks.

"Yes but-"

I'm cut off as he yells, "Then your ass is going down to the principals office!"

"But-"

"No buts!"

I start to back away nervously, but not towards the office, towards the door outside. My teacher starts yelling again but I don't hear him, for in a split second decision, I chose to run for it. I glance back and see that he's coming after me, but in slow motion. I'm a little weirded out by that, but choose not to think about it and keep running. I run hard and fast toward the park. I run past people who seem to be moving in slow motion. I ignore it and keep running until I'm at the parks statue of president George Washington. When I stop, people move at a normal speed again. Out of breath, I squat down and watch the people. Some of them give me weird looks and some of them pass by as if I wasn't there.

After I catch my breath, panic sets in. I just ran out of school! There's still two hours left. But I cant go back. I'll get into trouble for sure. I sit for many minutes before deciding that it's best if I go home. I start walking towards my house when I realize my car is at school. I stand for a few more minutes, contemplating my decision and wondering how I got into this situation before I decide to continue home. I'll just get my car tomorrow, if it doesn't get towed. I continue walking home whilst brainstorming a plan of what I'm going to tell my parents.
