"have you realized you steal from my paycheck everytime you do that?" june asked, rolling her eyes as she jumped up on a counter behind the cashier desk, sitting herself down after finally getting a break.

june's shift was soon to finish, and the last thing on her mind was the car ride with timothée, even though she had got out of his car just an hour previous. this night was a premiere shift, and there was no time to think about anything other than selling movie tickets and overpriced popcorn that, honestly, wasn't that good. around the cashier counter was a mess - there were receipts from every ticket she had sold that night laying everywhere, on the floor, on the counter, even some in the drawer which was full of 3d glasses. with the movie theatre filled to the brim, there was no time to do anything other than go from one customer to the next. laguardia students were some of the more common customers, which led to uncountable "hello"s, "how have you been"s and "you go to laguardia, right?"s.

june was the type of girl everyone knew, but nobody knew. she was just another blonde head in the crowd, and she had a small circle that she held close to her heart. one of which was her best friend daria that she had met during one of her first days of freshman year. the taller girl had transfered from a  school in brooklyn due to having been on the waitlist for laguardia, where she got in only a couple of days into the semester. june hadn't hesitated to ask her to come with to buy ice cream after school, and from that day on, the two girls were inseparable. there wasn't a day where the set of best friends wouldn't somehow communicate.

often, it happened to be at june's work.

june didn't know of many talents of hers other than her part of musical theatre, but one thing she was damn good at, was taking water over her head even though she was already drowning. she would take on any shift she was offered, and spend the night doing the homework for the next day. sometimes, if daria wouldn't show up to hang out behind the counter at the movie theatre, she would take the chance to sit down on the carpet floor and do the tasks and essays she had for the upcoming day there.

daria rolled her eyes back at june, her brown orbs soon fixated back on the soda machine where she was filling up a large cup of diet dr pepper. "i've given you so many free rides by now, you owe me so many of these for gas money," she just said, offering june a small smirk as she knew she was right.

pursing her lips, june just tilted her head as a nod. "i guess you're right," she spoke. "you might as well get one for me too, then."

reaching into the red and white striped box filled with the excess popcorn that hadn't been sold that day, june took a handful and plopped it into her mouth, watching as daria sat down, handing a large cup of soda to june.

this was tradition by now - diet dr pepper and burnt popcorn from the bottom of the machine. it wasn't very good, but june wouldn't want it any other way. it was part of the charm.

"you're coming to landon's on saturday, right?" daria asked, causing the smaller girl that she towered over even while sitting to tilt her head.

"what's happening at landon's?"

daria's eyes widened as she sucked on her straw. "he's throwing a party! i've told you about it so many times!" she exclaimed, clearly annoyed by the fact that june had once again forgot about a plan she had made for the two.

june shrugged. "i don't know, i probably won't go. i've been offered a shift, and you know they pay me more on weekends."

daria put her drink down, her face forming into an expressionless one, telling june that she was being serious. "really, june? you take every shift you get offered! you can say no for once," she spoke. "plus, if you fuck up between me and a guy one more time, i swear i will blow my fucking brains out. you're so sociable, i don't get why you keep saying no to any invitation you get ever."

"first of all, there's no need to swear," june scrunched her nose up. "and i just don't want to go, okay? parties really aren't for me. i hate alcohol and i for sure wouldn't be able to talk to people without a blood alcohol level of at least four."

the brunette reached into the bottom of the popcorn, popping one of the unpopped kernels into her mouth to chew on. "i can't believe you eat those," june shook her head.

"don't try to change the subject here, you aren't that slick," the other girl began. "you know i really like landon, and i want to go talk to him there. you don't even need to drink," she continued, a look that reminded june of desperation in her eyes.

with a short second of thinking, june finally sighed purely due to feeling bad for possibly letting daria down. "i'll go, but i'll have my dad pick me up no later than 12. you'll be up in landon's room by 10 anyway," she said, furrowing her eyebrows as she leaned back against the wall behind the counter they sat on.

"i knew you would," daria confidently said, happy to have fulfilled her own wishes for the weekend.

along with timothée, landon was a senior, only he was in art class along with some other people both june and daria knew. amongst the seniors, he was quite the popular guy, and it was clear why the brunette would have a crush on him - he was tall, dark and an artist, what more could a girl ask for? june could name a lot of things, but it was clear him and daria were quite the match. ever since they had began hitting it off, daria wouldn't stop talking about him.

with a slight sigh, june shut her eyes and leaned against the wall, slowly coming to the realizatuib that she'd have to go to a party and socialize with a whole bunch of seniors she had never met.

oh boy, would that be the day of her nightmares.
