"Mm, Dayen, stop." I giggled as I pulled my lips away from him. He didn't want to let go. I led him out of the rain to the veranda. "Sorry. I couldn't help myself." He took off his jacket and wrapped it around my shoulders. It was so warm and a little too big for me. "Aren't you going to snuggle in with me?" He smiled and found a way to get both of us in the jacket while he wrapped his arms around my waist. This was definitely my top ten best moments of the year. I was loved and safe from everything and everyone.
"You've changed my life." I whispered as we watched the rain pour down on the streets. The smell of the rain was overpowering yet I wanted to inhale more and more into my bloodstream.
"You have to admit, you really needed change in your life." I nodded and we watched the rain in silence. It rained harder for a couple of minutes and then it stopped. A beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky and the sun sparkled on the leaves of the trees.
"That's God's little gift to us." I laughed and kissed him on his cheek. Strange how one person can make your life worth living in less than five minutes. Oh, how life drastically changes people.
"Why don't we go inside?"
"Your mom won't get mad?"
"I don't care what she thinks." "Vil." I looked away from him. "I can forgive many things but not this." We walked inside and my mother was pretending to dust the cupboards. In actual fact, she was spying on us. I gave her an evil glare. I hate you so much right now. "Hello, Mrs. Scott."
"Hello, Dayen."
"I'll get you something to drink." I offered, ignoring their innocent yet irritating greeting. As soon as I walked out of the room, I heard my mother talking to him again. "I'm so thankful for what you're doing for my daughter. She's going through so much."
"She deserves to be happy."
"She won't talk to me." She said sadly. Pathetic.
"It's understandable why." I quickly filled a glass with a cooldrink and interrupted them before my mother could start talking about her personal problems. Dayen didn't need to hear them and he didn't need to be her new shoulder to cry on. Like hell that would happen.
"Here you go, Dayen." "Thanks, love." He was uncomfortable. Good. "Vilya, could you also get me something to drink?" She was trying to chase me away. Oh no you don't, Mother Dearest. Her presence deserved to be unheeded.
Now that Dayen was here, I could take advantage of the opportunity to be with him instead of being stuck with someone who kept begging for forgiveness. She kept throwing verses from the Bible but that didn't change a thing. Her presence was bothering me a lot right now. The atmosphere always became tense as soon as she walked into the room, which made me nauseous at times. I was completely aware of her every movement and I hated it.
"You know what, Dayen, let's go to the mall. Is that okay with you?" He sipped his cooldrink and directed an apologetic look towards my mother. Too bad, Mom. I quickly freshened up in my bedroom, took my purse and we were off. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when we got there.
"Vil? You okay?" My father was happily strolling around with his second family. They looked like those celebrity couples you saw on TV. Everyone holding hands and focusing straight ahead… I almost felt jealous.
"Vil?" Dayen shook me lightly and followed my poisonous glare.
"Is that your dad?" He asked softly.
"I demand an explanation for this." I let go of his hand and he ran after me, calling me and all. I stopped in their path and the second edition of the Scott family halted.
