Hermione, Ron, and Harry sat in the common room: Harry in his usual place by the fire; Ron and Hermione sitting closely together in the squashy armchair opposite him.

They swiftly finished the extra Charms homework that Flitwick had assigned Harry with some difficulty and lots of help from Hermione. Harry and Ron had finally managed to relax when she decided they should get a jump start on a lesson for an entire week ahead of them. Hermione credited this to their workload from incoming end-of-semester exams.

The boys had agreed somewhat begrudgingly when they saw what the lesson was: Emotion Revealers, a charm that created personal clouds of color to match the casters current mood. Harry wasn't entirely sure what the use for this was, and it was a complex bit of magic, but found it entertaining nonetheless. He saw Ron eyeing Hermione out of the corner of his eye, and knew why he would agree to practice this charm.

Hermione ruffled through the pages of the textbook, scanning them for a moment before raising her head to Ron and Harry's eyes. "Alright, I've got the color meanings. Ready?"

The boys glanced around, not sure how to respond. There was no paper to take notes on, and they weren't sure if Hermione wanted them to anyway.

"There's a chart here," said Hermione. "Blue is sadness, green is anxiety or disgust — hold on, I need to turn the page — red is embarrassment or anger, yellow is happiness, white is affection, orange is curiosity, and black is fear or power."

Hermione tapped her wand, murmured something under her breath, and gasped as a tiny wisp of orange trailed out of the tip of her wand. She looked immensely pleased and smiled at the shred of faint smoke as it dissolved into the air.

"If it's darker or lighter, does that mean it's stronger or something?" asked Ron, who had watched the smoke with mounting curiosity.

Hermione glanced at the book before answering.

"Lighter means it's soft. It can be just as strongly felt as the counterpart, but in a gentler way. When it's darker and denser, then it's passionate or strong. The more compact the smoke, the more intense the feeling."

"What if it's a mix of colors? Like if you get blue smoke with green bits?" said Harry.

"Then you're feeling multiple emotions at the same time. Apparently, all of them have to be really strong in order to appear at once."

"That's not all the colors though," said Harry. "What about purple or grey?"

Hermione closed the book. "They don't have every color because it differs from person to person. For example, if I get pink and so does Ron, it can mean two completely different things because it's not a primary color."
