Lia's POV
I was hiding in my bedroom like always. Afraid to come out. Afraid that he would be home.
Matthew held me close to his chest, a feeling of comfort that was needed in my house.
Matthew and I were tense and silent, hiding in the tiny bedroom we shared. We had heard something downstairs and were not taking any chances.
Carter was next door in his bedroom that he shared with Cameron. Cameron wasn't home though. He rarely was because of college. Cameron doesn't know what he does to us.
Cameron, Matthew and Carter are my foster brothers. We're close, closer than any other family could be. It's the fear that our so-called foster dad will come home and hit us again that brings us close. he bullies us, taunts us. Only Matt, Carter and I know what kind of person he is.
A 16 year old girl shouldn't have to go through this kind of life. A 16 year old girl should have a mother. But unfortunatley, my real mother and my foster mother are gone.
My real mother is a drug addict, unable to take care of the only child she had. She's away in God knows where and there's never a day where I pity her. She did it to herself.
My real father is gone too. A raging alcoholic who left before I was even born. I'm not exactly lucky at all when it comes to having parents.
My foster mother was a kind, sweet, caring woman who took all four of us in, nuturing us and treating us as her own. She was the mother I never had. But someone behind the wheel of a speeding car took her life away. A life that the world needed and was now gone.
She kept all the monsters away. But now that she's gone, the true monster in my foster dad came out like a fiery beast that can't be tamed. An angry and lost man looking for a fight. Pain to replace the emptiness inside of him.
Like I said, I have no luck with parents. But my brothers keep me safe and sane. I don't know how I would live without them.
My deep thoughts were distracted by Carter bursting open our bedroom door.
"It's not him, it's Cam" he said with a relieving smile.
"But Cameron's not meant to be home till 6" I stated, confusion in my tone, knowing that it is well before 5 o' clock.
"It's him, I swear. I heard his voice clearly" Carter promised, beckoning for us to leave our small bedroom.
I sighed, a little part of me wary, but Matt and I proceed to leave our room, knowing to trust our older brother.
We crept across the creaking floorboards of our dimly lit landing, stepping down the stairs, my hand gliding down the old, wooden banister.
I could faintly hear Cam humming to myself in the kitchen as the three of us approached him.
"Hey guys" he said happily, smiling widely at us.
"Hey Cam" I replied, grinning back. It was a relief to see that it was only Cameron.
"How was school?" he asked, seeming interested.
"Shit" I replied plainly.
"Language!" Cam shouted, but it was obvious he was kidding.
"I got a B in my History test" Matt said, propping himself up on the counter and grabbing an apple from the fruit bowl, taking a large bite.
"School can suck my ass" Carter groaned, plain and simple.
"Poetic, Carter" Cameron said sarcastically, gaining a cheeky smirk from Carter.
My brothers and I took school like everyone else: hating it but still going for our futures. We all have dreams to move out the minute we're finished school, unlike Cameron, who's in college but still lives at home.
"At least I only have one year left to go" Carter said with a smile.
"The year has only just started, you still have a while" I said, raining on his parade.
"It'll fly by" Carter replied with hope, only I could see he was being naive to say that it will fly by us. It's school: it will pass as slowly as it wants to.
I'm only a sophomore and Matt is a junior. Cameron however has just started his first year in college, so basically there's a year between all of us.
I was fostered at the age of 7 and I was the last of us to be fostered. I was a bit skeptical about living with three boys, but it turned out to be better than I could ever have imagined.
We hardly ever fight or get mad at eachother. Even though we're not related, I love them like my real brothers.
My thoughts were distracting me, a thing that happens often. I finally realized where I was and sighed.
It was still bright out, so I decided to take a walk outside. I grabbed my one and only warm coat and wrapped it around me, taking my phone and some cash from my bedside table drawer with me.
The cold breeze hit my face harshly, my eyes squinting through the blustery wind. I shoved my freezing hands into my pockets, immediatley heating them up as I begun to walk, my breath showing up as wisps of heat in the mist of the cool air.
Now was the time to let my thoughts get the better of me, an open space were nobody can read my mind or disrupt me. Not until someone walked straight into me.
I looked up and saw a familiar face: it was a girl from my grade, Hayley I'm certain her name is.
Her cheeks were red from the wind and her hair blowing around in the wind, looking like a supermodels unlike mine which was forming tangles.
"Sorry Lia!" she apologised immediatley, balacing herself on her own two feet by using her friends arm. I was surprised she knew my name, to be honest.
"It's fine, it was my fault" I replied, half-smiling at her, trying to be friendly and not make things awkward.
While Hayley was smiling back to me, I begun to study the person next to her.
His hair was messy and brown, pushed back in an attempt of a quiff. His facial structure was almost perfect, his blue eyes piercing into mine. He was extremley goodlooking, but I stopped myself from staring any longer, avoiding an awkward moment of stares.
"Well, we gotta go. See you tomorrow?" Hayley said.
"Yeah, sure. Bye" I said in a friendly tone, glancing at her friend for a second longer.
Just then, they walked away, leaving me shivering in the cold and wondering who the blue eyed boy was.
