*Song~Banks~You Should Know Where I'm Coming From

Lia's POV

It was still dark when I woke up, not a single shred of light coming from the window.

I was so reluctant to get out of bed, but I've missed enough days of school. I knew I needed to go.

I forced my eyes to fully open and looked over at Matt's bed....which was empty.

"Matt?" I whispered quickly in the darkness.

No answer. He's probably downstairs and just got up early.

I rose out of bed, my skin exposed to the coldness of my bedroom.

I stumbled in the dark over to the light switch and turned it on.

I waited for the light to properly light up the room, then opened my small wardrobe door.

I picked out some skinny jeans, black Vans, a black top and a turquoise, white and purple jacket (outfit shown above or on the side).

Too exhausted to even bother to do my hair properly, I threw it up into a messy bun, wisps framing my face.

I never really dressed up for school, I just wore what was comfortable. It's not like I'm trying to impress anybody.

I exited my bedroom as quietly as a mouse. My dad left for work early and came home late so he was hardly home, but when he was...

I shook the thought out of my mind, grabbing onto the banister as I walked down the staircase.

I heard faint voices from the kitchen, so I entered and gasped when I saw what had happened.

There was glass shattered on the ground and Matt and Carter were standing there, a poppy bruise on Matt's jaw and his lip bleeding badly.

"Lia, leave now" Carter said quietly, a strict tone in his voice.

I didn't move a muscle, I couldn't take my eyes off my brother. It's not unusual to wake up to see Carter or Matt injured, but it shook me up every time.

Thank God Cameron wasn't here. He never was in the morning. He was either gone out, at college, or at a friends. He never needs to know what our foster dad does to us.

"Lia! Get the fuck out!" Carter roared, all calmness in his voice gone.

Matt jumped at the harshness in Carter's voice, trembling and shaking, looking uncomfortable and scared in his own skin.

I could see the tears in his eyes, glossy and clear. I wanted to hug him, tell him it's okay. But I never ever lie to my brothers.

"Just go get ready for school" Carter said, his voice quiet again.

"I'm ready" I said plainly, not wanting to leave Matt and him alone.

"Then go to school. Don't stay here" Carter said.

I wanted to keep my feet firmly placed on the ground, but seeing the look on Matthew's face told me to just go.

I sighed and grabbed my book bag from it's usual spot next to the front door.

I took one more look at my brothers then left. I didn't want to upset them. If they wanted me to go that badly, I was gonna go.

The blustery cold was stinging my skin as I waited for the bus that pulled up down the street from my house.

Finally, the familiar bus parked right in front of me, the door swinging open.

I stepped on and sat in the space I usually sat. Most of the other people on the bus were screaming, laughing and talking. I put my earphones on in an attempt to block them out.
