I go home completely drained and with a buzzing head. I don't know what I should do. Most importantly, I really don't want to face my father. Dad would be with uncle Tim today so he won't be home for another two hours. Enough time to hide in my room.
As I pass by the kitchen, I find mom drying her hands and about to go out. Once she sees me, she smiles, and I smile back at her. She might have gained some weight with the years, but she is still beautiful, with her blue eyes and blond hair that I inherited.I forget about hiding in my room and sigh, "I really need a mama talk."
She smiles, her kind eyes turning even more kind, "Tell you what, you go change while I fix us two cups of tea and some biscuit."I nod with a little smile, "I would love that!"
I go to my room, take a quick shower and slip into my pyjamas before I go back to our living room. Mom is sitting on the couch, waiting for me. Once I sit by her, she gives me my cup and kisses my head.
I snuggle closer to her and smile, "I really missed this"
She puts a hand on my cheek, "you are the one who drifted away."
I snort, "well I guess I thought that I was a grown-up and what not"
She snorts as well, "and how is that going for you?"
I groan and rest my head on the couch. She stayed silent, looking at me and waiting for me to open up.
"If I want to be an actress, I have to quit my job," I blurt out. To speak the truth, I am afraid of her reaction. She doesn't have a temper, but she does have a strong personality.
She sighs, "I thought that would happen."
I look at her and frown, "you did?"
She shrugs, "it is obvious that they would want someone focused on the job."
"What do you think about all of this?" I ask before taking a sip from my cup.
She shakes her head, "you said it, this is your life. I can't control it."
I nod, "I know. That's why I am asking for your opinion, not an order."
She takes another sip of her tea while looking at the table in front of us, "I really don't know, love. As a mother, I want you to keep your job, after all, it provides a steady income and a bright future."
She stops then looks at me, "but at the same time, I want you to follow your dreams. You have already listened to us all your life. I have to admit that I was glad when you told us that you did what you did."
"Well, your husband wasn't so eager about it," I mumble.
She gives me a sad smile, "you know that he didn't mean it."
"Oh, sure. Let's act as if nothing happened because he didn't mean it," I shout.
She raises her arms defensively, "I am not defending him. He was wrong, and I gave him a piece of my mind when you left"
"It's good to know that you are standing by me about this matter," I say, putting down my cup of tea and resting my head on her lap. She starts stroking my hair, and I feel so blessed to have her by my side.
I look at her, "I know that it is too late to ask, but how did you and dad meet?"
She chuckles, "what took you so long?"
I make a face, "you and dad are cringe-worthy when you act all lovey-dovey."
She smiles and looks in front of her, her eyes twinkling, "we were set up for an arranged marriage but then one day, he came to my house and told me that he needed to talk to me. I never liked the idea of an arranged marriage, but I went through with it because of my parents."
She shrugs, "and your father being so handsome helped as well."
We laugh then she continues, "well, your father, being as rude as you know, frankly told me that he loved another girl and asked me if I would accept breaking this engagement. I was glad to be rid of the whole thing and accepted, at once."
She caught my attention with that detail, "then, what happened?"
She laughs, "after a few weeks, he came to my door and asked to speak to me... again. His face was beet red. He told me that he wanted to continue with the engagement. I had to reply to his earlier rudeness and asked him if his beloved left him. He just nodded and looked away."
"Don't tell me that the story ends here," I sit up straight and exclaim when she remains silent.
She shakes her head, "I told him that I would only accept if we were able to get to know each other more. In the end, if we felt that we could live together, then we shall get married"
"I guess that you two found your feelings for each other then," I say with a wink which caused a blush to appear on her cheeks.
"Your mother is the most beautiful and amazing woman I have ever met," said the hoarse voice of my father which startled mom and me.
He takes a few steps towards my mom, and he takes her by the hand. He puts both his arms around her waist and sways with her left and right, "she proved to me that I was a foolish man when I thought that I could live without her"
Mom, now, has both of her arms around my father's neck. I would usually want to vomit at such a scene, but the look of love in their eyes only created knots in my stomach and made me happy for them.
I was giving them some space when dad's words stopped me, "I am sorry about this morning. You are old enough to make your own choices and to know what would ruin your life and what wouldn't."
I was giving them my back, and I remain in the same position.
I take a deep breath, "I am going to quit my job to pursue a career in acting."
With that, I leave the room where dad is still trying to comprehend my words.
All hail our strong independent woman ;b Don't forget to vote, comment and tell me what you think XD
