Sakugo is from the Japanese characters 錯誤 (sakugo) to mean 'mistake'. The name itself was coined prior to the knowledge Barry would exist in the anime, and prior to Kenny's dubbed premier, likely assuming that, despite there being no evidence of Barry's existence, if Barry did exist, they might know each other by local proximity. The exact relation to the name itself is unknown.
