My hand waved around the cauldron while both Susan and Lucy looked over my shoulder into it. Peter was off to the side watching as I continued my ritual. Edmund was slumped down beside him with a frown on his face.
"So, what are you doing again?" asked Lucy, looking at me.
"Creating a protection spell. For you four. In times of distress the spell alerts me via its homing energy. From there, the spell deciphers the best course of action. And it will teleport you to the nearest sanctuary or it'll protect your mortal body view forming a covering over major organs that is so tough that nothing can break it, except for the skin." I explained.
"And is it safe?" Susan asked me.
"Do you really think I wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't?" I raised an eyebrow at her.
"I wouldn't count you against it." I heard Edmund mumble.
Peter glared at his brother and elbowed him in the gut. "Mind your manners, Ed."
"Aren't there other protection spells or potions you could do?" asked Lucy.
"Yes, that is true, but I thought this was the better option." I explained to her.
"How? Why?" asked Lucy.
"Well, some protection spells simply protect your body from getting hurt while others are more like alert systems. This one protects your body, alerts me at once, and encasing you in a defense. A defense that can either weaken or make the perpetrator resist." I explained.
"Magic is really interesting." Susan marvelled with Lucy nodding in agreement.
"That's one way to call it." Edmund voiced his opinion.
"Well, if you feel that way, then you don't have to get this protection spell. Have fun finding yourself being stabbed to death by an assassin by an enemy kingdom." I spat towards him. "Okay, who wants to go first? The potion is ready for protecting."
"I'll go first!" Lucy beamed.
"No, let's think this through logically." Susan injected.
"You really think that one of us is going to get killed within the five minutes it takes to do all four or us?" asked Peter, a hint of mischevious in his voice.
"No, but what if it's like energy consumption of animals? You only get ten percent of the first one and then it's ten percent of the first, ten percent of the second, and so on and so on." Susan said.
I liked how she was curious about things. I liked how she tried to apply science to magic. Whereas most people said it dark nature with no origin to it. Whereas most people said it was of an unknown nature that couldn't be explain. Whereas most people said it went against all things magic. Susan Pevensie was different. She was trying to apply it to science. Unlike most people.
"Why don't you ask her if that's how it works, then?" asked Peter.
Susan turned to me. I sighed. "No, you get all of the protection no matter what order I do you in. I'll drenched you in a spoonfull of potion with this scooper-ish thing. Sorry, I don't cook. The concotion will seep into your skin and create a protecting covering around your cells inside and outside your dermis layer of skin. And then I will say the incantation that makes it active. Should take about forty-five seconds to a minute for it to work. If you think I'm lying, do you want to go first?"
Susan nodded. I took a spoonful of the potion and doused it over her head. The potion went past her clothing and slipped between the openings of her epithelial tissues and cells. "Prostasia! Drastiriopoíisi!" First one down, three more to go.
