Josh POV

I watched, I just watched, as Cara ran out my door with tears falling from her eyes. My heart ached knowing I was the reason for those tears. I whipped around to look at Christine who was leaning against the doorframe with a smug expression spilt across her lips. She had come here begging for an apology and I had been stupid enough to fall for it. She had cried in my arms until I did the only thing I knew would make a girl feel better, I kissed her. It wasn’t a meaningful kiss just a simple friendly kiss, at least that’s what I thought of it. The next thing I knew my shirt was off and we were lying in bed. I won’t go into much detail about what happened until I heard someone at the front door knock. I opened it to a scarred Cara and took her into my arms.

“Cara, what’s wrong?” I asked concerned as she fell into my open arms.

“Can I sleep here tonight?” she asked in such an innocent voice I couldn’t find the words to tell her ‘no’. I tried to tell her it wasn’t the best time when Christine appeared.

“Josh, who is it?” she called and I watched as Cara’s expression turned into a heartbreaking one. She looked scared, sad, defeated, angry and emotionless all in one. “Oh, sorry,” Christine sounded like she didn’t mean it.

‘Uh, so I’ll go,” Cara tore away from my arms and I already missed her warmth.

“Wait, Cara!” I called after her as she ran away. “What the hell Christine!” I yelled at her a bit louder then I meant.

“What? You actually care for that piece of rubbish?” she asked crossing her arms. “I did you a favor getting rid of that disgusting rodent.” She pointed down her throat and I crossed the room in three strides so I was standing right in front of her face.

“You do not call her that!” I screamed and she looked taken aback. “You need to leave.” I said calmer.

“But Josh,” she began to protest and pout. She sighed and turned away. I walked numbly to the couch and sat down with my head in my hands. I heard her pass by me and open the door. I looked up and she opened her mouth to say something but my glare silenced her. A few moments after the door close I heard the all-too-familiar strumming of a guitar. The words were lost with the walls but the strumming and chords themselves sounded like a funeral march. I didn’t know how long I sat there listening to Cara play but I must have fallen asleep because when I woke up the sun was out.

“Cara!” I knocked on her apartment door after I showered and kept pounding on the door until Mike opened it.

“Hi Josh, what can I do you for?” Mike answered it smiling. He must not have known about Cara or she wasn’t telling him.

“Can I speak with Cara?” I asked quietly and respectively.

“Sure let me see if she’s up.” I made my way to the couch and sat down as he went into her room. It didn’t seem good that he was in there for the majority of ten minutes before he finally emerged. I saw Cara’s red, puffy, and tear stained face hidden behind the door. I tried to catch her eye but painfully failed.

“Get the hell out!” Mike said suddenly.

“Mike, uh Mr. Peters please just let me talk to her.” I begged and stood up.
