An interview with the creative author, Bateaux!

♤ ♤ ♤

Q: How do you continue to write even when you are creatively drained/stressed?

A: I still struggle with finding a balance. Writing is the first thing that gets pushed to the wayside when I feel busy or overwhelmed. But sometimes you just have to sit down and force yourself to do it, even if it's only a little each day!

Q: What is your favorite story that you have wrote?

A: Blackout is my favorite book I've written so far. It's the first full length mystery/thriller I've written, and I had so much fun trying something new, and writing a main character who was very complicated, and often times morally ambiguous. I'm still waiting for a project that'll make me feel the same way Blackout did while working on it.

Q: Which character, out of all of your book that you have written, is your favorite?

A: Piggy-backing off my last answer, Alina Castillo from Blackout is very close to my heart. She's flawed, she's messy, but I feel that she's real, and I had the best time writing her. I also have a soft spot for Maya Kaito from one of my current ongoing projects, The Spaces Between You. I've put a lot of myself into her, so writing her can be therapeutic sometimes.

Q: Favorite Wattpad book?

A: I can't single out just one, but if you take a look at my reading lists, and my recommendation book you'll find some of my favorites!

Q: Favorite published book?

A: At the moment, Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Q: If all of your fans were listening right now, what would you say to them?

A: Thank you so much for all of your continued support! I probably would've given up writing a long time ago if it weren't for you. You inspire me to keep going!

Q: Any writing advice for beginners or to those who are going through writer's block?

A: Write what you want. I firmly believe you should work on something that makes you excited, rather than what you think will get the most attention, or what you think people want to see from you, because you'll get the most enjoyment out of writing that way. As for writer's block, try to figure out why exactly you're struggling, and take a step back. Sometimes you need to go back and change things in order to move forward. But also, don't be afraid to take breaks, and use time to brainstorm.
