"it's okay ricky." you whispered to the brown eyed boy who had officially broken up with his now ex-girlfriend nini. you softly played with his smalls curls as he hugged his pillow.

"it's over. it's really over." he cried, you hated seeing your best friend so crushed. "it's all my fault."

"ricky no it's not." you tried to comfort but he immediately turned to face you.

"yes it is!" he shouted, "if only i had said i loved her back i would still have her here with me!"

taken back by the sudden outburst, you stayed silent. you knew he didn't mean it, and he was just hurting but you decided it was better to just stay silent. you weren't trying to upset him more. after a moment he finally spoke up.

"y/n i'm sorry i didn't mean to snap at you like that." his words flowed softly as he reached his hand out to yours. "i know you're just trying to help, and i am so grateful for you."

you couldn't help but blush. you, ricky and nini had been friends since you were little. you happened to be closer to ricky due to the fact you were growing up with all boys in your home. as you all grew it was destined for you to get a crush on him, but so was it for nini, and long story short he fell for her. you got over it, understanding that maybe being just friends with ricky was for the better and pushed away any feelings that snuck up on you every now and then. you supported your two best friends regardless of how you felt.

"don't mention it rick." you smiled, "i'll always be here for you."

the two of you locked eyes for what felt
like an eternity. you felt your heart beating out of your chest, unsure of what could happen next. suddenly, he looked away. you stayed in the same position briefly before slowly letting your head down trying to push your fantasies away and focus on helping ricky.

months had passed and ricky was improving by the day. it hurt him seeing nini with ej but he was strong and you couldn't have been more proud of him. joining a musical was pretty wild in attempt to win her back, but you believed he had found a new passion. you guys had both scored lead roles and were working together quite constantly.

it went by fast and suddenly it was opening day. you stared at yourself in your dressing room mirror trying to shake nerves. a soft knock was heard making you twirl in your chair toward the door.

"hi ricky." you smiled, he was completely dressed in costume, just like you.

"hey." he exhaled deeply. "wow, you look uh- really nice."

this boy never failed to make you blush. you whispered a quick thank you. ricky had opened his mouth to speak but ms. jenn approached giving the 5 minute call.

"well, hear goes nothing." you laughed quietly, he nodded, obviously a little bothered he didn't get to say what he wanted before the show, regardless he smiled. "yeah, hear goes nothing."

the show was a huge success. everyone loved it and you put out the best act you could. packing up your items before going and seeing your family you hear your name. you flip around to see ricky. you grin widely before running into his arms, embracing him tightly. he closes his eyes taking in the moment.

"you did amazing tonight. i am so proud of you." he pulled away and looked you in the eyes, the same way he had months ago while you held him in his bedroom. the same feeling. your heart beating rapidly. but this time he didn't turn away, instead he closed the space between you two, kissing you gently, but full of love. your hands instinctively went to cup his face. you melted into the kiss, this was everything you had ever wanted.

you both pulled away slowly, not losing eye contact. opening your month to say something but he quickly cut you off.

"y/n i've been meaning to tell you this for a long time." he started, "i've just been so nervous and it never felt like the right time and i tried to today but ms. jenn interrupted but i'm just going to say it." he took a deep breath. "i love you" your heart was immediately struck with emotion as your eyes welled with tears at your best friend who you have loved for years confessed his love for you.

"i've loved you forever and i never thought you felt the same and that's why i went to nini but after we broke up you stayed by my side and helped me grow into this person i never knew i could be. you- you changed me." he wiped his eyes, "and i've been so nervous to tell you how i felt because i lost nini for not telling her i loved her and i can't lose you for the same reason."

you stood there speechless tears running down both your cheeks. you connected your lips once more before repeating the three words you had felt for him this entire time.

"i love you."
