Constance ran down the centre of the ballroom and left out of the large doors. The Gypsy Lady ran after her.
"Constance!" she called down the hall. Constance stopped in her tracks. She turned.
"Why are you running? You are married now! It is the happiest day of your life!" Constance shook her head.
"This is not how it was supposed to be Leota. I think I'm going crazy."
Leota stared at the smudged mascara under her strained eyes.
"Follow me."
Leota led Constance to a small circular room above the ballroom in the library. Several candles were lit and books were open upon a small circular table in the centre of the room. A crystal ball sat on a golden stand in the middle of the table- it glowed a strange green. Four chairs sat at the table awaiting guests to join them in the seance. Constance sat in the seat opposite Leota. Leota concentrated upon the crystal ball.
"Serpents, spiders, tail of rat,
Call in the spirits wherever they're at." Leota began. The ball began to float. Constance's eyes grew wider in amazement.
"Rap on a table it’s time to respond. Send us a message from somewhere beyond!" The table shook and spirits could be heard in the room. Constance shivered.
"Wizards and witches, wherever you dwell. Give us a hint, by ringing a bell! A small bell rung upon the table. And suddenly, faster than she could blink, Constance was lifted into the air by a strike of green lightning. Then, she fell abruptly into her chair. She felt no change. Leota smiled.
"That should do it."
