As Charlie stared at her reflection in the mirror across from where she sat on the bed, she heard the front door unlock and the door open.
"Char! Where are you!" She heard Lilly yell.
"In my room!" She yelled as Lilly walked in the doorway. "I'm not ready to leave yet," Charlie lied, wanting to buy time.
"Charlie, you look good," Lilly smiled at her. "Let's go."
Charlie quickly put her shoes on and grabbed her phone before following Lilly out of the apartment.
"How are things with Zendaya?" Lilly asked as they stepped into the elevator.
The mention of her name made Charlie's heart miss a beat, her palms began to immediately sweat.
"Fuck, don't get me started," Charlie laughed nervously, shaking her head.
"What do you mean?" Lilly asked, looking back to Charlie once they got off at the main floor.
"She texted me earlier today," Charlie rubbed the back of her neck as she followed behind Lilly. "Everything's been fine, we've been hanging out like, as much as possible"
"Then I don't get it, you guys sound fine," Lilly said, genuinely confused.
Charlie shook her head and looked back down at her hands, messing with the hem of her shirt.
"She had a meeting with her management earlier today, they aren't letting her see or interact with me at all now," Charlie said, getting into the car.
"Fuck, why?" Lilly asked, starting the car but leaving it in park.
"I don't, I guess there's too many rumors about us," Charlie said, still looking down to avoid eye contact, tears had began to pool at her waterline.
As they sat in the car in silence for a few moments, Lilly seemed to pick up on how upset Charlie truly was, seeing the tears that were starting to fall down her cheeks.
"Do you want to talk?" Lilly asked gently, still sitting in the parking lot.
"Y-yeah," Charlie told her, wiping her eyes, looking over to her. "I just- I don't even know if she's telling the truth, she could just fucking hate me and didn't know how to tell me," Charlie told her.
"If she's lying, that's totally fucked up," Lilly shook her head, "I don't think she'd do it like that"
"But I don't know," Charlie said, running a hand through her hair. "I was gonna tell her, Lilly."
"About how you-"
"Yes, about how I like her. And now, I just- I can't. I can't risk that shit," Charlie looked into Lilly's eyes, ignoring how much she had previously hurt her. "I can't risk putting all my emotions and shit out there, just to find out she hates me, or she's straight or she's dating someone else secretly. To her, I could just be the person that interviewed her that one time. I could mean nothing to her, absolutely nothing. It fucking sucks, Lilly," she stammered, trying to catch her breath as her hands shook.
"Hey, breathe Char," Lilly said, trying to calm her down, "I don't think she's lying, Char. And she may like you back, you never know, okay? But her management, you know how shitty that business can get," Lilly tried to reason and take her mind off things.
Charlie shrugged and forced a smile, "It'll figure itself out," she tried reassure herself, but it wasn't working.
She wanted to forget everything, she wanted to forget all of the words and new restrictions and possible lies. Everything was so overwhelming, she wanted a break from it all, she needed a break from it all. From the reality of the situation and the feelings she regretted yet couldn't subside.
