He knew the old boyfriend was messing his head up. But now he was happy that he didn't need to enter Keith's mind to find that out.
Well, he didn't have to worry about that anymore, at least not for now. Keith's presence was magical ... not that it totally vanished the faint waves of people's emotion from him, but at least now he felt like he had power over it. There were no hallucination attacks ever since they kissed. Plus, Nathan had a feeling that if it were to come back, he could really fight it now.
Keith's phone was glued to his eyes all the way as they climbed the trail to one of the small tea houses built in one of the edges of the hill. Nathan really wanted so bad to let Keith have a taste of the tea and wine made here, and maybe share what had been going on in his head since the past couple of months. He wanted to tell Keith everything, because out of everyone in this world, Nathan knew he deserved it the most.
Maybe he really was a psychic after all. Maybe he really could read minds, and Ravelle along with the husband could be powerful if they had faith in their bond. Nathan Drew had faith in what he shared with his stepbrother, and that made him feel safe enough for now.
They sat down at the tea house, and Mustafa greeted them. He told Nathan to congratulate his parents later and apologized for not being able to make it to the wedding previously. When he and Keith were left alone, Nathan reached out and wrapped around his mate's waist, caressing his worries away. Nathan leaned in and planted a kiss on Keith's forehead when he murmured, "It's okay ..."
"I'm really sorry ..." Keith responded, something pinning on him from the way he spoke only. Maybe Nathan should peek inside his mind and tried to ease the worries away, but he decided otherwise. He wanted to leisure in the moments of feeling like a normal person with his mate.
"It's fine," Nathan said. "I'm sorry for bringing up your ex-boyfriend."
"It's not that ..." Keith said. "It's just ... I don't feel good about him ..."
Suddenly the wall broke. Nathan closed his eyes and tried to course through the pain he anticipated in his head and in his chest. The wind blew past them and it triggered a nausea in him.
He staggered off his chair and felt it coming. The hallucinations.
"Hey, hey ... what's wrong ..."
He couldn't respond. Fuck, he couldn't even feel. Then he felt everything and it just couldn't stop ...
It died down a little when he felt Keith's embrace. That was it ... that was the remedy, he suddenly remembered. He needed Keith. He started to feel blood flowing again inside his body.
And like a hero he usually was before, Keith took Nathan's face and sucked all the venom out of his head by placing their lips to lock on each other.
This time, Keith took charge, like he intentionally knew that could help. Nathan felt the urgent bite, the sliding of tongue, and he devoured it all in, taking it all when he saw it.
He saw the shadows, and Nathan's heartbeat raced to it. Shadows of someone, and the familiar fear that had been concealed in Keith's chest all along. Then a silhouette was formed ... Nathan closed his eyes ...
Then he noticed a flash of darkness, a complete dark sky. He could see the glimpse of a night that terrified Keith so much, a night where dead bodies lay all over him, a night of his mother's uncontrollable rage.
A night where Keith had misplaced his fangs ...
Shit.
Keith broke the kiss and Nathan noticed the tears. The next moment he saw the vineyard again, he realized that he, too, had been sobbing.
"Nathan ... love—"
Then a phone ringing interrupted what Keith had to say. Nathan tried to breathe right again when Keith answered the call.
What happened next felt so fast and disorienting. With a panic clearly stricken on his face, Keith said, "Nathan ... Tessa ... my aunt! We have to go now!"
