Btw, everyone ages like humans. It's just easier for me rather than give myself an aneurysm trying to match everyone to the way irl animals age, especially with a cast of characters that won't be limited to cheetahs later on.
I'd say Unina is in her early 20s.
Fuli quickly pelted through the plains as fast as her little cub legs could take her. She could hear a loud, rapid series of tromping behind, and it was quickly heading straight towards her.
"Ready or not, here I come!" Unina's voice boomed from behind.
Eep! Fuli panicked as she quickened her sprint. C'mon, faster! Gotta hide, gotta hide, gotta hide!
Emerald eyes darted around, frantically looking for somewhere to take cover. Then, she spotted a large rock from the corner of her eye and skidded to a halt. Looking up, she saw the stalks of grass rustle, her mother gradually nearing her. Without another second of hesitation, Fuli darted behind the rock and crouched as low as she could on the ground.
The grass parted as Unina slowed down around where Fuli was now hiding and stopped to look around. Holding her breath, Fuli shivered with anticipation, Will she find me?
She pressed closer against the ground, ears twitching as she heard the sound of the other cheetah's bigger pawsteps gradually getting louder and closer.
"Hmmmm..." Unina thought out loud, "Where could that little rascal possibly be...?"
The grass began to tickle Fuli's nose and she silently clamped her paws over her nose, resisting the urge to sneeze. Her pelt puffed out in suspense as a shadow loomed near her hiding spot, every one of her muscles tense so that she wouldn't make any sudden movements that would possibly give her away. Fuli could picture the older cheetah's skeptical expression, sniffing around suspiciously to firmly reassure that there was nobody hiding nearby.
"Maybe she's over there..." Unina spoke to herself, and she turned around and padded on ahead, completely passing by the rock Fuli was hiding behind. Cautiously, she peeked from behind the rock and looked around, Unina was nowhere in sight. Good thing too, because at that moment, Fuli couldn't hold the sneeze anymore;
"Achoo!" she squeaked, rubbing her nose.
Suddenly, the grass behind her started to shake and before Fuli even had a chance to twist around, her mother came out forward in a lunge and landed right in front of the smaller cub, pretending to snarl.
"Gotcha!"
"AAAHH!" Fuli shrieked as she fell onto her back. Then she realized who it was and sighed in relief, "Mama...!"
"Sorry, did I scare you?" Unina chuckled.
"Pff, no!" Fuli humphed, "I wasn't scared... I was surprised! Huge difference."
"If you say so," Unina said, leaning forward to nuzzle into her daughter's fluffy face.
"Heheee, mommy!" The little cheetah cub giggled as her mother gently nosed into the thick, silver-gray mantle fur on her fuzzy head. Then Unina stuck out her tongue to give it a couple of licks to remove some of the dirt stuck on the fur.
Fuli squealed, batting her tiny paws at Unina's muzzle as she continued to groom her. "Hey, cut it out!" She ducked away just as the other cheetah leaned in for another wash. The fur always ended up looking messy and could never seem to stay smooth or flat no matter how many times Unina groomed it. But Fuli didn't really mind, the baby fluff wouldn't stay forever anyway and eventually she'll outgrow it as she gets older.
