Today was a normal day. As far as normal standards go. We got up, went to go get our breakfast in the dining hall. When I got there, I got my usual sugar cereal and roll with jelly.  I went to go sit down at a table with my best friend Carter.

Carter has been training his whole life to be a guard for  Akmodeza's gates. No one goes in or out. That means that, if you're a guard, you go out, and you never come back in. The underground doesn't want anybody telling people about the outside world. Kind of stupid if you ask me. I don't want him to be a guard because that means I will never see him again. But granted, this next year I could never see him again anyway. Let me explain.

There are many rules in Akmondeza, but we don't have a rule about how many kids per person. So, to prevent overpopulation, Akmondeza holds a raffle. Every year, on June 27th, everyone puts their name in the raffle, and Ramsay draws ten names. The ten people whose names are drawn get to leave Akmondeza, to go to a different town. You have to be older than sixteen to get your name put in the raffle, and this year, Carter and I are old enough to be in the raffle. I don't want either of us to get picked because I like it here in Akmondeza. I have everything I need, and everything is peaceful.
