Makena's POV

Opening my eyes, I realize I had fallen asleep while reading my book as I peel it away from my chest. Sitting up, I realize I have to try to get out of here, I think as I stretch the sleepiness out of my body. Standing up, I walk over to the closet and select a pair of leggings and an oversized sweatshirt. Since he was going to be away for the day, I thought I should be comfortable.

I walked to the bathroom and pulled my hair back into a high ponytail, then grabbed some mascara and added some to my lashes. I put on some lip gloss on my lips as I smack them together as I walk back into my room. I heard the door open and Ruben pops his head in.

"So will you run if I let you walk down to breakfast without the cuffs and chain?" He stared at me concerned, and I wondered if he was worried if I would run or him getting caught letting me off the cuffs and chain.

"I'll be good! Is Jesse home?" I ask.

"No, he's out right now," he says as he holds open the door so I can leave. I send him a sweet smile as I slowly inch out the door, half expecting him to grab my wrists and cuff them together. Only he doesn't, he just walks closely behind me as I walk through the home on my own.

Getting down to the table, I pull out a chair and sit. I was so relieved to not have that damn chain around my waist. I watch as he places a biscuit on my plate along with two strips of bacon, and I watch as he drizzles yummy-smelling cream gravy over my biscuit. This breakfast has always been a favorite meal of mine, and it was hard to get wrong. I let out a soft moan as I shoved a bite into my mouth. It was so delicious! I smiled at him.

"Thank you very much for this, Ruben!" I say through a smile, taking another bite of the food in my mouth.

"You are very welcome, I disagree with the whole cruelness of all this. I am hoping that today will show that you can be trusted not to run!" He smiles warmly.

After I was finished he told me I could roam around the house as long as I continued to behave for him. Standing up I walked into the living room, it looked like this was the only room with a TV. Since I wasn't supposed to be on any electronics I walked right past it. After all, Ruben told me if I behaved now then maybe Jesse would trust me to walk around the grounds more often.

As I was walking around the building, I came across the front door. Being the brave girl that I am, I glanced around and saw that I was indeed all alone. No sign of Ruben or either of the other two, so I got excited and my heart began pounding so fast. Again, I glance around... Determining the coast was still clear, I open the door. Looking out, I check around the property to determine whether the coast was clear and which direction to run. When I hear the engine of a car approaching, I decided to run in the opposite direction.

I was running towards a group of trees in the distance, as I neared them I ducked behind a bush so as not to be seen. Turning around I watch carefully as Jesse parks his car. He shuts off the engine, and then I watch as Ruben steps out of the house. I continue to watch as they enter a heated argument, and both of them look toward me. I dunked hoping that they wouldn't see me, I needed to leave this place fast.

Peeking back up, I glance back into the direction where they were standing and didn't see them anywhere. I started running and had been running for about ten minutes when I came to it. There was no way around it. I tossed a small stick at it and heard the zap as it made the connection and then collapsed to the ground. Who would install an electric fence around their property in the middle of nowhere? Obviously, a crazy obsessive guy who wanted to keep me inside his property, that's who!

I stand there as I try to figure out what to do next when all of a sudden I feel two strong arms around me and pull me back into his solid hard chest. I cringe as he whispers in my ear, "Now what on earth are you doing, and where in the hell are you trying to go?" His hot breath sent shivers down my spine as he spoke. I swore he was doing it to me on purpose!

"What does it look like I am doing? I'm trying to escape!" I scream, trying to wiggle myself free from his grip. I should have known better, I couldn't get away from him, at least not that easily. He covered my mouth with his gigantic hand to stop me from yelling out as he picked me up off the ground.

"It looks like someone is going to have to be punished," he says sounding very upset about it, I wondered why and then I remembered what he said to me. He told me that he wouldn't enjoy punishing me, so he actually begged me to behave. He tosses me over his shoulder with a growl shortly before returning to the house.

Getting to the gravel driveway, he sets me down on my own two feet, tightening his grip on my arm as he pulls me towards the house. I continued to try to pry myself free from him so I could escape. I saw Ruben and Curtis standing inside the doorway, their looks told me they were both worried for me, maybe even scared.

"Jesse, what are you going to do with her?" Curtis asks. "You know that wasn't really fair, to begin with, what girl wouldn't try to run if given a chance? I mean you did kidnap her after all!"

I was trying everything in my power to pry his hands off, but he had a death grip on me, so I knew he was going to leave a mark. "Be gentle with Jesse, after all, this is her first offense!" I heard Ruben say, his voice sounding really worried. "Plus it was all my fault she took off in the first place."

"I know who's fault this is Ruben, you should have listened to me! This is all your fault, I have no choice but to punish her. Plus if I'm gentle on her, then she'll try again won't she?" I hear him growl out, he was obviously annoyed with them. He pushes me toward a closed door at the back of the kitchen. He pulls a set of keys from his pocket and unlocks the door, opening the door I see nothing but darkness and stairs leading downward.

Pushing me forward, he leads me down the stairs, pausing only to turn on the light. At the bottom of the stairs I froze, I knew I had made such a terrible mistake. Looking around the room, I just realized that I was totally screwed! There were a few handmade tables, chairs, and boards that held straps and cuffs. The whole place was built as a torture chamber, so it made me wonder what punishment he was about to execute on me; butterflies started to flutter in my stomach and my heart began to beat so fast. I couldn't help but cringe at the sinister smile that he had placed on his face. I felt a shudder through my body when I tried to pull myself out of his grasp.

I stomp my foot down on his as I did during my kidnapping, and he dropped his hand. "Fuck!" I hear him yell as I run up the stairs. Getting to the top, I slipped and nearly fell down the stairs, when a strong hand firmly gripped my arm, preventing my fall. I heard his rushed footsteps as he approached the scene of Ruben holding me still at the kitchen door.

"Thank you, man! She almost got away from me... She's sneaky," he whispered in a soft tone, as he grabbed my arm.
