"Hey, there. It's been a while, hasn't it?"

I nod fervently. "Yes, it has been a while. I'm so happy to see you again....Feenie."

He extends his hand out to me and I take it, embracing the feeling of another person's warmth in my hand. The sun above us shone brilliantly, even behind the clouds that passed by. Everything was much brighter, more colourful. More so than the cold grey walls of my cell.

But that's all behind me now.

I smile at the person next to me. Despite his physical changes, he was still the same man I fell in love with all those years ago. The same man I had made food for, the same man I knitted a sweater for, the same man I shared lunch with everyday.

And now, I'll have that forever.

"Iris..."

"Yes, Feenie?" I asked giddily, ecstatic at the thought of being with him for the rest of our days.

He scratched the back of his head. "I know this may come as a shock to you, but I think it's best that you knew about it...about 'her' before we get back home."

"Her?"

As much as 'home' sounded all too wonderful and unbelievable to me, I worried over what he meant by 'her' and who this 'her' was.

Perhaps I am too late. Maybe he's found another girl to love.

Thinking solemnly to myself, I almost didn't catch what Phoenix was saying.

"Yes, my daughter, Trucy."

It took far longer than it should have for me to comprehend what he had just said, but hearing the word 'daughter' leave his mouth did shock me.

"You...you have a daughter?"

Doing my best to stay calm, I flashed a smile in his direction. He nodded as we continued down a street nearing his house.

"She's a wonderful girl, I must say. Actually, she is a wonder filled girl. She's learning to become a magician."

"Is that so? She sounds delightful."

I can't deny that I felt a little jealous. Not of his daughter but of the woman who got to him first. The one who gave him that sweet, 'wonder filled' child he calls his daughter. So caught up in my jealous thoughts that I didn't listen to what Phoenix was saying before we reached his house.

"Trucy, I'm home!"

Gesturing for me to enter first, I could hear the sound of small feet pattering on the floorboards draw closer. Just as Phoenix had closed the door, a small girl wearing a red cape and top hat ran past me and jumped into his arms.

"Welcome home, Daddy!" Giggling, she was spun around in the air before being put back down onto the ground. Still smiling, she turned to me and gasped, tugging onto Phoenix's sleeve. "Daddy, Daddy! Who is she? Is she the person you were meeting today?"

"Yes, she is. She's going to be staying with us now."

Trucy's face lit up. "Really?! Yay!" She rushed over and hugged me around the waist. "Nice to meet you! My name is Trucy."

I couldn't help but smile at her and returned the hug. "Nice to meet you too, Trucy. My name is Iris."

She flashed a grin and pulled on my hand. "Come in and sit. Daddy, you should know better than to leave guests in the doorway!"

Phoenix just shrugged and followed us into the main room where Trucy got us to sit round the dining table. "Wait here and I'll go get my props! Daddy, can I show her my magic tricks?"
