Ungrateful
Chapter 6
No love in the deep
She awoke from the darkness in a light room with pink hair in her vision.
"Cupid?" she rubbed her dreary eyes and groaned. She could see she had been put back in her jail cell/bedroom for the time being.
"What happened?" she sat up and Cupid helped her.
"That necklace, it's enchanted."
"Juvia is guessing that's a bad thing." she felt the unfamiliar cold metal laying between the valley of her breasts.
"Yes, but... it can be taken off" Cupid trailed off and eyed the evil material.
"D-do it!"
"I-I can't.... it could kill you." she began tearing up remembering what happened to her brother.
"It's an order. "Juvia hated that word but it needed to be done. Cupid took a deep breath and trained her hands close to her freind.
"Materialism is only a word, release the bonded chain from the body beneath me, so mote it be!" and with that the cold necklace fell to the ground with a soft clink.there was a strange looking burn mark where the necklace had been.
"That necklace..." Cupid picked it up and read the inscribed words on the back.
"Was...an engagement for your marriage with the king." she let it fall out of her hands as tears slid down her face.
"No..." juvia whimpered.
"No!" she screamed. they both began sobbing uncontrollably. The maid took juvia into her arms and pet her back while whispering comforting words.
"Do you want me to tell you a story?" she asked referring to the old days, juvia nodded.
"Once there was a girl whom the rain followed, she was very depressed and also an orphan. everyone said her rain was depressing and that made the rain pound down harder and faster. She made little dolls called Teru Teru bozu to keep the rain away, that only made the kids make fun of her even more. well after she got out of the orphanage, she joined a dark guild but while in that guild she was sent to battle. she had to capture a loved and cherished woman from another guild and return her to her father, however, on her mission she encountered a young man with ice powers. call that fate huh? ice and water, perfect for each other. anyway, she fought so hard but her jealousy of her prisoner got in the way for when she first laid eyes on that man, she fell in love. He too said her rain was depressing and that made her fight even harder. Well at the end of the fight, the girl had lost and began to slide off of the roof but the man saved her. that day she had seen the sun for the first time in a long time." Cupid finished with a weary smile on her face.
"There's more to that story..." Juvia exclaimed looking wearily up at Cupid.
She nods and gets in a position to listen.
*flashback*
A young bluenette,no older than seven, walked along the deck of the ship on a warm spring day.
"Come eat lunch with me sweetie."
"Yes mother." juvia giggled happily and skipped over to the small table.
"We need to have a discussion involving magic."
"But I don't know what kind of magic I use yet." Juvia pouted.
"I know I know, I just wanted to give you something."
"What is it?" the young girl asked, awe and wonder sparkling in her wide blue eyes. Whenever her mother or her father gave her presents they were either simple and pretty or extravagant and expensive, what her mother set on the table was both. it was a mirror, the back of the mirror was embellished with blue lacrima gems and soft looking pearls.
"Mother it beautiful."
"No, you are my lovely butterfly." the serene sounding young woman combed her slender pale fingers through her daughters long blue hair and slipped a necklace with a triangular pendant into her daughter's skirt pocket. If you asked a stranger if they were related, they wouldn't be able to tell; her mother had dark purple hair and striking silver eyes. the stranger would definitely be able to tell if you put her up next to her father, they shared the same blue hair and deep azure eyes.she got her natural curly wavy hair from her water Mage grandmother. Both of her parents were air elementals and very powerful ones at that, but both had relatively sharp looks.
"Always keep it with you no matter what."
"Why?" she questioned and hugged the mirror to her chest tightly.
"You'll see." she said and smiled lovingly at her daughter. they stayed like that for a while, just sipping on tea on the slightly cloudy day.
"Looks like it might rain yeah?" her father trotted down to them from the watch place.
"I like the rain." The girl smiled at her father.
"Well alright, just make sure you carry your moms umbrella and your satchel."
"Yes papa." she beamed and went to retrieve just that. While Grabbing the umbrella and satchel from the ship's kitchen, she gets distracted by a meow. It was a soft sounding but weak mewl, but it was loud enough for her to find where it was coming from. It was coming from behind the oven. She crouched just low enough to see sparkling silver cat eyes watching her.
"Here kitty." She cooed and opened her arms. It cautiously inched forward and sniffed her hand, that's when she noticed something odd... The cat had pink fur.
"You're a strange looking kitty aren't you?" She examined its coat further and scratched behind its ears.
"Says the girl with blue hair." She heard a boyish child's voice purr at her.
"W-who said that!" She spun around.
"Down here." The animal in her arms pawed at her collar bone. She squealed and let go of the cat in pure shock, it landed on its feet.
"Y-you can talk?!" She scoots away from it but is cornered by the pantry.
"Yes, I can also eat, get me some bread I'm starving." She obeyed him out of fear.
"Kitties can't talk." She reasoned more with herself than with the talking animal.
"And humans can't walk." The animal responded sarcastically, nudging her arm towards the bread basket.
"But you have a good point clever Little girl,I'm not a cat, well yes right now I am but this is not my original form. I'm a shapeshifter." The young pink creature then proceeds to blur and grow larger.
"Eh?" The girl froze, her brain still not processing what had just happened.
"Well I'm still a beginner and can only change into a couple other things..." The boy trailed off, still awaiting an answer from her.
"You okay?" He pokes her cheek gently, She blushes then nods fervently.
"U-um so do you want to play in the rain with me?" The small girl twiddles her fingers nervously and kept her gaze fixed on the ground below.
"Sure! Let me grab some food first." He took nine bread and meat rolls and shoved them into her fathers old passed down satchel.
"And some apples for you." He smiled, knowing she had a love for the fruit. After all being a kitchen boy did have its perks but that's not why he's on the ship. The pair exited the kitchen and began to play in the rapidly increasing downfall.
"Oh my goodness! Look how big the waves are!" She giggled playfully and pointed towards a particularly large one crashing against the bottom side of the boat, making it rock with a hard push.
"Yeah, the storm is getting pretty fierce, perhaps we should go back inside..." The boy tugged The bluenette's arm.
"No! I love the rain!" She stomped her boot fiercely and ripped her arm away.
"C'mon we don't have time for thi-"
"JUVIA!" Her mother screamed for her just as a monstrous wave rose above the ships deck and crashed down onto the children. The next thing juvia knew, she was in the fearsome, stormy ocean but not wet. No, her mother made sure no harm came to her little butterfly by sending a last minute air sphere to capture her. She was slowly slipping into a shock induced unconsciousness and could hear her helpless parents screaming for her over the side of the boat then just unrelenting sobs. She felt hatred and terror course through her veins. She hated the rain now and realised why many feared its freezing touch, it was truly horrifying. Little did she know that this was only the beginning of a fatal storm... Her vision faded from a deep blue to an onyx black in just seconds and she had lost consciousness.

She awoke atop a grey turtle shell, blue skies surrounding her.
"I see you're awake now." The animal acknowledges her presence on its back.
"Y-you... How did you-"
"I was knocked over as well." He interrupts, she stays silent.
"This is one of my three formations." He explains looking wistfully at the calm ocean before them.
"I retrieved your umbrella and satchel too, the bag stayed dry because of your mother." He made a point of this by nodding at her lap where the objects currently reside.
"You sure are a big turtle..." She lies back down and pulls her cloaks hood over her face to block the sun. Days passed faster in the open seas and she knew her food and water supply would run out rather quickly. An entire week had passed and her water canteen only had a minimal amount of water left in it. Four days later and her resources were completely gone. With no water or food for the young girl she began to resort to other ways of survival. She speared fish with her umbrella and ate them raw, also drinking salt water that's been filtered by her canteen. Trying not to adapt animalistic behaviours. The fish rarely came to the surface where they were now and she passed out two days later from famine.

"Wake up." She blinked slowly and realised she was on solid ground.
"Here have some food and water." Her silver eyed companion offers her some venison and fresh water from a spring near them.
"Thanks." She quickly consumed and drank what was given to her, almost inhaling all of it. A branch cracking interrupted her small feast.
"H-hello?" She hid behind the young boy and waited for a monster to reveal itself.
"Mew." A small cat-like sound came from the bushes.
"Kitty!" She ran to the small kitten-like animal and examined it carefully.
"Look! This one has weird fur like you!" She showed him the grey creature, it had neon teal tiger stripes all over. It looked to be only a month old and had stunning lavender eyes with large black dilated pupils.
"I'll name you...bozu!" She giggled happily and began to weave a flower crown for the cat.
"I-I wrapped your mirror for you..." The boy nudged her shoulder and handed it to her gently.
"Thank you! Where did you get this?" She brushes her fingers cautiously over the tightly wrapped newspaper.
"I found it in an abandoned newspaper stand."
"You're so sweet, here." She crowned him with the ring of decorative foliage, he blushes a pink hue.
"Let's go find some shelter for the night!" He orders laughing. She picks up the cat then links arms with him and nods.
"Excuse me, are you two younglings lost?" An old woman approaches them deep in the forest.
"Actually yes, we're very far from home and are in need of shelter for tonight."
"Oh! Well follow me!" She gives them a toothy grin and leads them deeper into the woods to a medium two story building.
"I'll see you one at a time in my study." She smiles sweetly as they enter the house. Juvia sets her stuff down with the young boy and bozu the kitten as she went to visit with the old woman.
"Name?"
"Juvia lockser."
"Age?"
"Seven and a half."
"Point of origin."
"The island called cazacia."
"Year of birth?"
"X767"
"Relation with pinkette?"
"Brother." She lied.
"Okay, the papers are filled out. Please send the pinkette in."
On Juvias way out she told the boy to say she was his sister and he agreed solemnly as he handed her bozu. A few minutes later the boy and old lady exit her office and the trio makes their way down a long and stretched hallway. They came across two doors, one blue, one green.
"Ms.lockser you will be staying in the blue room." She points to the sapphire painted door and ushers her into it then shuffled off to the kitchen. Her "brother" dropped his small pouch of keepsakes in the green room then proceeded to sneak into her room with a colouring book.
"Look I found some entertainment." He sets the small packet of paper, stickers and crayons on the ground.
"Can you shapeshift into a butterfly?" The question that had been nagging her mind had finally slipped out.
"No not yet, but I hope to one day." He grins and sits next to her. She peels a sticker out of the book and sticks it to the bottom left of the outside of her door.
"Well I hope one day you can turn into the biggest most beautiful pink butterfly, like this one!" She grins widely and points to the reflective decal. A loud pounding on the door interrupts their moment of peace.
"Ms.lockser! I told you this was your room and your room only!" She grabbed him by his collar and slammed the door after her.
"Don't hurt him!" She called weakly after them but neither of them seemed to hear her plea.
"Come, we've got to get you cleaned up before dinner." A young looking maid picked her up and beckoned for the cat to follow. To say the maid was pretty would be a severe understatement, her soft and gentle green eyes and long, flowing, silky chestnut brown hair could make any king throw diamonds at her feet. She had such an exotic beauty with her dark skin, the maid was truly gorgeous. Which made juvia wonder why she was working as a maid...
'Maybe she's evil...' She thought. The woman undressed juvia and set her in a warm bath along side bozu floating on a toy boat.
"Don't worry, I'm not the bad guy." The maid held her wet hands up in defense.
"H-how did you know what I was thinking?"
"I'm soko, shizumi soko, a mind reader. Nice to meet you dear juvia." She held out her hand and the bewildered bluenette shook it out of politeness.
"Oh and don't worry about your pinkette friend, he'll be fine."
"He's not my brother..." She admitted, frowning.
"I know." The two girls exchanged glances and burst into a fit of laughter. After that they stayed in a comfortable silence and it didn't break until they were sitting at the dining table. The old woman from before tapped her eating utensils on her wine glass timidly.
"Attention special guest, ms. Lockser, I must inform you that all of the young girls staying her must speak in third person at all times and refer to me as mrs.manabe." The silence that ensued the order was near deafening.
"Um mrs.manabe? What's third person?" The rest of dinner was spent as an English lesson.
.
.
.
"Wake up!" The old woman shouts and bangs on the door harshly. Thinking there was a fire, juvia shot out of bed and to the door as quickly as she could then opened it.
"Meet me in my office in ten minutes." Mrs.manabe ordered then stalked off towards the kitchen with a diabolical grin etched into her wrinkled face..Ahn~ end of chapter six, this one isn't as sad as I thought it was going to be but trust me it gets waaaaaaay worse omfg.
