Katsuki sat in his room, munching on some snacks with a diet soda. He skipped breakfast and refused to come downstairs unless no one was there. It was around the time of Sunday morning. Katsuki sat in his bed contemplating life itself. Which everyone does at some point in their life. He wished there was a way to talk to your soulmate. He figures you could use morse code but with tugs of the string, but of course, both of you would have to know morse code.
He tugged at the string with enough force it would hopefully reach his soulmate, and he hoped for a tug back.
He felt alone at this time, being 15 and most of the people in his school have already found their soulmates. He started distancing himself from others and using his own personal time trying to search for this mysterious person. But as he thought he was getting closer, he was actually getting farther.
Back when Katsuki was small and still in elementary, a common question would always pop up, "how do you even know if your soulmate is nearby?" Well, it was simple. If your soulmate is far away, the string is loose and feels like a long piece of yarn that never ends. If your soulmate is near or getting closer to you, the string will feel tighter or tenser. Like if two people pulled on a string with the same amount of force.
There was a whole curriculum in school about soulmates, kind of like learning about money when you're young before you have to pay taxes and rent.
Katsuki would always hear wonderful stories about soulmates, old fairytales and sometimes true stories that became so special they ended up on the news or in the paper. These stories delivered one and only one message: Your soulmate is always there for you.
This made Katsuki wonder to himself, what is a soulmate? What exactly makes them so special besides being destined to meet? Is it because of the stupid string that made it present itself so vibrantly in society? Katsuki wanted to know, he needed to know. But who would he ask?
That Sunday was spent with thoughts whirring through Katsuki's mind like an over-worked computer, heating up with too many things it results in a crash. He felt like that right now.
He fell sleep late-afternoon and didn't wake up until the next morning. He groaned only just now remembering it was Monday, and he now had school to deal with.
Maybe he could ask Kirishima about the whole soulmate thing, he was always pretty good at heart-to-heart conversations. Katsuki continued to get dressed in his school uniform, which was provided by the highly popular school that went by the name UA High. He felt awkward being in such a high demand school when he really didn't feel the need to be there. He still wasn't sure what he wanted to be when he grew up, his only goal was to find his soulmate. A very cliche goal in his opinion. But he didn't care.
He arrived at school grumpy and tired. Even though he got more than a full 8 hours of sleep, he still felt drained. Maybe his mental place he was in at the time wasn't a very healthy place to be in for too long.
First period was boring as usual, and everyone was still waking up and none of them wanted to be there. Second period was similar, but the class was a fun class: Art. Katsuki has always liked sketching and drawing, and then art class started talking about full art pieces like paintings or drawings that you would drain countless hours into. He liked the idea of just drawing away while letting your mind and emotions run. He found it calming. Third period was P.E., a personal favorite of his. He was one of the stronger kids at his school, and would always dominate them in competitions or fitness tests. Fourth period was math, the class he hated most. His teacher was an asshole, and he already hated math in general. Lunch had arrived, and Katsuki asked Kirishima to talk outside.
Kirishima was slightly worried about what Katsuki had to say, especially since the spiky blonde usually wanted nothing to do with them.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" Kirishima asked, offering a kind and warm smile.
"Well- Uh- It's kinda hard to say- um-"
"It's okay, you can tell me-"
"What's a soulmate?"
Kirishima fell silent. This was strange coming from Katsuki, he wasn't the type to overthink things, or even be involved with something like love. But if the Katsuki Bakugou asked something like this, Kirishima felt the need to explain an answer more than just 'whoever your string is attached to' as a teacher would say.
"It's like a best friend but more. It's the one person in the world who knows you better than anyone else. That someone who makes you a better person. No, actually they don't make you a better person, you do that by yourself because they inspire you. A soulmate is someone you carry with you forever. It's the one person who knew you and accepted you and believed in you before anyone else did or when no one else would. And no matter what happens, you'll always love them and nothing can change that."
Katsuki held his head to his knees with only a single tear falling down his left cheek. And he whispered only two words that expressed everything.
"Thank you."

Izuku sat in class, writing down lazy notes as his teacher spoke. He didn't care much about his school or his classes anymore. His mother told him that he would be exchanging schools by the end of the month. And it's only the 4th of March. He would be leaving on the 30th, take a day to get comfy, and arrive at his new school on the first of April.
"Hey! Izuku!" Uraraka waved at Izuku as the bell rung, signaling that 5th period was over.
"Hey, Ochako."
"Greetings Midoriya," Iida smiled, offering a small wave with his hand and a smile. No matter how many times Izuku had told Iida to call him by his first name, he always politely refused, so he let it slide.
He had told his friends about moving to Tokyo for school. He was originally born there, but his mother told him they had to move to America for job reasons.
Iida and Uraraka were fairly sad, hearing their best friend say he was moving away. But they made a promise that when high school was over and they were in college and found their soulmates, they would meet again. They called themselves 'The Heroes' and would yell, text it, anything to signal they need to meet. They promised that if someone of the three said those words, they would drop everything and meet.
The three had 6th period together, and so at the end of 5th, they would meet in front of Izuku's classroom and walk together.
Izuku was not the only one with his soulmate on his mind. He wondered what his soulmate will look like, or act like, or anything. She would surely be enchanting in every way.
However, there was a problem with that. Izuku wasn't really... into girls. But nevermind that, he vowed to love his soulmate no matter their gender or looks. That's what soulmates were, right?
The day ended with Izuku feeling anxious. He was a little nervous about moving back to Tokyo, as he barely had any memories of it. And anxious to find out who his soulmate was.
But...
His string was long and didn't seem to end. Loose. If he tried to tug it to send a sign, it would surely never reach his significant other.
He looked down as he walked home and thought to himself:
'I hope I can see them soon.'
