Third person.

Her 18th birthday was the day Amara was planning on escaping. She had everything ready. Her flight booked. Her apartment ready and waiting for her. She asked the landlord to bring the furniture she bought, into her room. He gladly agreed, which was a huge relief. Even her bags were packed. Although she could only bring a small carry on because it would look suspicious if she had everything packed. Other than that she was completely satisfied with what was about to happen.

She told no one she was leaving. She had no one to tell. She grew up while keeping to herself. If someone found out about the details about her life they would definitely call the police. She couldn't have that happen to Harvey. He was her only family left. Her mom had no siblings and her grandparents were all deceased. So now it was only her against the world.

She entered her so called home after her last shift at the small diner she worked at. Harvey was found passed out on the couch probably from the drugs or alcohol he consumed prior. Her room was in the basement where she was placed by Harvey the first day she moved in. She didn't even get a bed until she was 15. She didn't complain though because it may have been uncomfortable, dark, and scary but it was better than what a lot of people have to suffer through. She proceeded to collect her belongings so she could venture to her upcoming new life. Amara placed a kiss on Harvey's bald head and said "I love you, and I hope you will survive without me, but it's time for me to go. Maybe we will meet again in the future someday". With that she went on her way.

Hours later.

She made her way to through the small, old, but charming (in Amara's mind), apartment. The building reeked of cigarettes, something too familiar to Amara to fully recognize. The five story complex was not in prime condition but living there would do for now. Rent was affordable and the pictures of her room looked rather cozy. As she entered her accommodation she was truly happy with the way the building manager set up her furniture.
However the pictures online were false. It looked old and full of grime. The apartment was still better than nothing though. Definitely better than her cold basement floor.

She settled in and took a nap. After all of that travelling and stress, a nap was a must.

She woke up, made her dinner, and started looking for jobs on her laptop. The laptop was hidden from her uncle but she needed it for university. After hours of looking on websites she found an amazing opportunity. A personal assistant to the CEO of a company called Sterling Incorporated. It sounded very familiar, she must have heard about it during university. Interviews had to be booked so she emailed the company to make an appointment. Amara was never allowed a phone and she was too scared to buy one of her own. She grew accustomed to interacting with others through email.

While she waited for an email back she decided she wanted to wander around her neighbourhood and maybe find a library. She quickly searched up if there were any near by and she found one about a five minute walk away.

Once she arrived at the library she was greeted by an elderly women who looked extremely good. Amara wouldn't have noticed she was a senior if it wasn't for her voice, saggy facial features and greying hair. However the lady seemed very kindhearted. "Hello dear what brings you to the library today"

"Oh I recently moved out here and I was just l-looking to see if I could find a library, b-back home the library was one of my f-favourite places to be", which was true. It was like her second home, if you could call her first home a real home. Amara loved to read and escape from the cruel story that is reality.

"Oh I see, are there any genres in particular you are looking for. I would love to help you look around and maybe recommend a book or two" the lady smiled.

"I really enjoy action and adventure novels, some non-fiction books about different peak my interest, and I love horror stories. My name is Amara by the way" she stated as she took her hand to shake it.

"My name is Cassandra but please call me Casey", they looked at books together. Amara made a library card and she even took out a few books Casey suggested. With that Amara made her way home.

She opened her computer to see that she received a confirmation from Sterling Inc. Her appointment was the next day at a quarter after one.
