"If the villagers find their way into this very kingdom, I have no choice but to protect Vath; and I will probably be killed in doing so. Maybe...maybe I can get him away from here and lead him to safety. If he collapses here, it will most likely mean our separation. If so, may his sleep come peacefully; for this, I pray. If they were dealing with simple criminals, they could isolate us; perhaps, rehabilitate us. But that will not work for those who have been contaminated by a lord of chaos or a chaos beast. For us, isolation is a death sentence; and nothing the mortals can do will change that. We must attack in order to exist. We cannot stop; and you know a killer will keep on killing. There is only one proper punishment, is there not?"

The dark walls of the cellar brandished a morbid atmosphere beneath me. Its oppressive walls had a cruel reminder to me that felt worse than death. It shook me. I heard the drip, drip, drip of the leak in the roof. I really, really, wanted to go to the toilet, but I couldn't, for fear that if I went upstairs, I would either be caught, or attract enough noise to be surrounded. I didn't dream of going to the toilet in here, because the smell of ammonia would reek, and might attract attackers.

That leak's been bothering me for some time now. I can't go up and fix it, I don't even know where it's coming from. A shame, really. Sometimes it's so bad I can't sleep. Although Vath seems to have no issue with it – probably because of the fact he sleeps like a log. Honestly, it's crazy. He's mostly out like a light nowadays. These past few weeks have been extremely hard for him. I mean, it's bound to get better – the only way you can go when you're at rock bottom is up, right?

"Hnn.....Haa.....Haaa...."

What's that sound? It's coming from over there, but there's no entrance or exit in that direction, and if someone were to break in through the ceiling, they'd have to know there would be a room underneath where they were standing beforehand. I soon came to realise it wasn't an intruder, but it was Vath, who was curled up on the blow up mattress, his duvet surrounding him to the point I couldn't see him, but I would recognise it was him.

"Hey." I walked over to the duvet, where the whimpering Vath was underneath the covers. "What's wrong?" I asked. I tried to pull the covers back to see what was going on, but to no avail. He forcefully gripped from underneath, preventing me from seeing. Something was up. "Are you okay?" I asked again, a lot gentler this time. This wasn't like him to hide. I grew concerned further. "Come on..." I slowly massaged his shoulders, the covers still on. I pressed a gentle kiss to his head. "What's the matter?" I spoke to him ever so softly, like the feeling of fur running against your skin. Like the way a mother would speak to her child. But being ignored made me grew worried even further, so I couldn't keep this up for long.
