Five: Scare
Maria didn't know what happened. She was just reading Beomsoo-ssi's card when suddenly she couldn't breathe anymore. It wasn't long before she completely lost consciousness, dropping hard to the floor and hitting the side of her head.
When she opened her eyes, she couldn't make up what was up and what was down. She wasn't standing or sitting or lying down or even floating. She was just. . . there. She couldn't see, feel or hear anything for the first few minutes. It was hard to breathe. After a few seconds, Maria began to regain her eyesight. Everything was blurry but she could make out the outline of. . . something. What was that?
Women appeared, their lips were moving but Maria couldn't hear a thing. There were so many, and they were everywhere. Slowly, Maria managed to make up low chattering. They were all saying different things, but she couldn't understand anything.
Something moved towards her. A face was so close to her.
"Beware," they whispered and then smiled.
The corners of the smile reached their eyes.
Matthew woke up from the frantic beeping from the heart monitor and the medical team rushing into the hospital room. His sister's body was shaking uncontrollably as her eyes rolled to the back of her head and her mouth foamed.
What the fuck what the fuck what the fuck.
He was terrified. This had never happened before and Bom had said that she didn't drink at the gala. Their parents were on their way since it hadn't been long since she collapsed. The doctors were holding her to her side as she continued to convulse. Matthew began to hyperventilate as he noticed that Maria's seizure wasn't over within the first few seconds.
It was fucking excruciating to know that he couldn't do anything for his sister. Matthew needed his parents to come now before he passed out. After the hyperventilation came the crying. A nurse pulled him out of the room after he caught the attention of everyone due to his sobbing and closed the blinds. It felt like forever. Matthew was pacing in the hallway, running his fingers through his hair repeatedly.
Bom was walking back from the waiting room after calling her parents and once she saw Matthew breaking down in the hallway, began to run towards him, heels and all.
"What is going?" Bom asked, looking at the closed blinds. She grabbed Matthew's arm and pulled him so he would look at her. "Matt! Matt, look at me, okay? I need you to breathe. What happened?"
Hoseok was in an entirely different situation.
Hoseok had woken up with a lotof people hovering over him and he was still at the gala. He had only fainted for a few minutes and had woken up disoriented and dizzy. His mother was all over him immediately after he opened his eyes, yelling his father's name who was about to murder a paramedic for not treating Hoseok as the priority.
Maria was the one with a pool of blood around her head. It was only natural that she would be the priority.
Hoseok sat up, freaking everyone out because they thought he would immediately die of a concussion. He slowly began to process what was going on and noticed Maria being put onto a stretcher. Then he remembered the fog and the cold and the dread. He needed to see her as soon as he could, but he wasn't going anywhere until he was thoroughly checked.
His parents drove him to the hospital as his father grumbled about how he wasn't going to let his son ride in an ambulance with someone as incompetent as that paramedic. Hoseok wasn't listening to anyone. He had a blank stare and didn't protest when his mother pulled him to lean on her shoulder. He couldn't stop thinking about it, about that thing. He had never seen anything like it.
