Six: Hallucination

Hoseok was lying on his bed, feeling as if he were hallucinating without the hallucinations if that makes any sense. He hadn't been the same after the gala and he couldn't seem to rationalize anything that had happened. It was just strange, Hoseok felt like he wasn't the same and that worried his parents. His physical health wasn't a concern anymore, but they could see him emotionally deteriorate at an alarming speed.

It felt as if nothing made sense anymore. It felt as if he didn't truly exist and that he was just there.

Hoseok sat on his bed, rubbing his face hard, trying to get himself together. It's been days since he slept properly, and he was just so tired. Tears brimmed his eyes as he heaved, breathing heavy and quickly. His heart rate started to quicken as his heart hammered against his chest.

Maria. He needed to see her. They had to see each other before he went completely crazy.

Ever since Maria got discharged from the hospital, both Matthew and their mom had been all over her. She was diagnosed with low sodium levels and was drinking medication for it—nothing life-changing or threatening as long as she took care of herself. That didn't stop her mom from sleeping at their apartment. However, she was finally leaving tonight. It was her job to worry as a mother, but she was missing work and Maria also needed her to leave. Matthew was another story. He had become strangely clingy and overprotective.

"When you started to shake, I felt as if I was going to die," he had said. "It was so scary, Mari. You've never been that sick before."

Maria understood. If something like that ever happened to him, she would probably break down too. But also, Matthew was a real crybaby.

It's been a few days since the gala incident and Maria had finally gone back to work at the House. Namjoon had been worried about her ever since she was taken to the hospital. He had literally just gotten on stage to address the guest when he saw her suddenly drop. Ever since then he had been wondering what happened. He didn't see anything off about her when she approached him and Beomsoo. She just seemed like her everyday self; a little nervous and overly polite.

So, when Namjoon saw her waiting for him to come in at the House's lobby, he let out a sigh of relief. He did know she was coming back that day—she had emailed him—but actually seeing her was a different story. Maria looked as if nothing ever happened, but this time she didn't have her usual work hairstyle—half up half down. She had let her hair down to make sure that her stitches couldn't be seen, even though her hair was thick enough for it to hide them either way. It made her feel a bit subconscious. She didn't usually leave her apartment without putting her hair up.

"You're back," Namjoon flashed her a brilliant smile. "It got weird around here without you following me around."

"Good morning, Mr. Kim," Maria grinned.

"I'll catch you up once we're in my office," he began to walk towards the elevators.

"Sounds good," she quickly followed, still not quite used to his long strides.

After the first day of working with Namjoon, Maria learned that wearing heels was not the best option. Ever since then she wore flats or her favorite oxfords. It made her day a lot more bearable.

"Beomsoo-ssi had asked for you yesterday," mentioned Namjoon as they waited for the elevator. "I told him that you took the day off for a dental appointment."

"Thank you."

"You don't deserve to miss the chance of getting along with him just because of a mishap."
