A ringing phone awoke her. It was still dark outside, and glancing at her alarm clock, it was only four in the morning. It was the landline ringing.
"Hello?" she answered groggily.
There was a dark chuckle on the other end.
"Who is this?" she asked, instantly alert.
"Do not worry about who I am, but what I am going to do to you if you do not stay out of my way."
"What are you talking about?"
"I am talking about your Uncle. We want him and his inventions, and you out of the way. If you know what's best for you, you will not interfere."
"Yeah right, like I am going to stand aside while you kidnap my uncle."
"You had better, or you will die also."
"I don't think so. You are a coward, you know that. You call me and threaten me? I will have you know that this phone is bugged, and you are being traced right now, so if I was you, I would watch your back, not the other way around," she warned him.
"You will die then," he said and hung up.
Tracy rolled her eyes in the dark. What a fool he was. When it was light she would check the caller ID and see where the phone call was from, she was sure she could trace it, but she was tired.
A rapid knocking came on her door then.
"Tracy!" It was Craig.
"Come in," she said.
He walked in, flicking on the light, blinding her temporarily. She tried not to stare at his bare chest as he hurried into the room. He was only wearing pajama bottoms.
"I heard your phone call."
"You did?"
"Yes, I picked up the same time you did," he said. "Do you know who that was?"
"No. I have no idea."
He cleared his throat and sat down by her, noticing that she was in a silky nightgown. He had to control his hormones.
"I think we can trace his call," Craig told her.
"I am sure we can too, but will it lead us to anyone?"
"I don't know," he said, and standing, he checked the caller ID. "Anonymous, no surprise."
"Yes, no surprise," she said.
She sat up and swung her legs off the bed, exposing her legs.
Craig swallowed, looking at her. She was trying not to stare at him either. He was extremely well built, and she was trying not to drool.
"You shouldn't have threatened him," he stated.
"Like I was going to tell him that I was going to back off? He is a fool and a desperate one, but I think I will have to watch my back even closer now."
"I think you are right, all of us will have to be more cautious."
"Hey, what's going on?" John asked as he walked in.
"Someone called and threatened me," Tracy supplied.
"Are you okay?" he asked.
"I don't know John. I am getting tired of being shot at, groped, and threatened. Maybe I should go home, at least I wouldn't be bothered there."
"Are you sure?" Craig asked. "Then you would have to deal with your creepy ex-boss and co-workers."
She sighed. "You are probably right."
