Hello MystresMyna
Thank you for speaking with us!
PP – Will you tell us a little about yourself?
Myna-
Howdy to All!! Well let's see... My youngest son, who will be 20 this year, describes me as "a 14 year old goth chick in a 49 year old body." I have to say that is fairly accurate, but that is only half of who I am.
I do love all things dark and scary, vampires being my favorite dark creature, but the traditional ones. Bram Stoker's Dracula is my favorite book of all time. My second favorite is Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca and it represents the other side of me.
I am divorced with two sons; the oldest is 29, married and has two children. My family is my life; after God nothing comes before my babies.
Homeschooling is a large part of my life. I homeschooled my boys, my niece and now I teach my grandchildren.
Outside of this, I love playing video games, raising chickens, ducks and geese. I also do just about any craft you can name.
Finally, my faith in Christ is my guiding light that ultimately shapes my life.
PP – How long have you been writing poetry?
Myna-
I started writing poetry in my teens, in high school. My mother had read poetry to us as kids, so I was very familiar with the art form. My first poems were the worst kind of sappy teenage love poetry. I have them all still, and when I read them now I just cringe!! After graduation I didn't write much at all until I started back to collage a few years ago and picked it up again. I have not been able to stop, it is my passion now.
PP – Is poetry the only thing your write? Do you write in other genre and if so what are they?
Myna-
I do write short stories of various genres. I really love fantasy, paranormal, children's and faith based stories. I do have several ideas for novels but the thought of actually writing them is very daunting. Poetry is my first love and I will be a published poet one day!
PP – How long have you been on Wattpad?
Myna-
I found Wattpad about six months ago, through a cousin, whose daughter is a Wattpadder. I have been addicted ever since I joined.
PP – What made you decide to join the Poets Pub team?
Myna-
Poets Pub was one of the first groups I found on Wattpad. I joined in on the Biggest Competition Ever at week 5. I was enchanted by everyone I came into contact with. As we were coming to the end of the competition, Bill announced that he was looking for help with the Pub and I jumped at the chance. I wanted to be able to give back some of the kindness I had been afforded. I began as the editor of the Pub Chatter and have since become the Pub's "Girl Friday". It takes quite a bit of work, but it is truly a labor of love.
PP – What makes the Poets Pub special to you?
Myna-
Everything about the Pub makes it special!! However, it is the people that make it the enchanted place that it is. I think what I enjoy most about the Pub members, is the varying level of poetic experience. We have veterans who have been writing poetry for decades, as well as, poets who have just started their writing career. Everyone has a place and a purpose, and respect is shown to all members equally. The Pub is full of inspiration and it challenges me to be a better writer. The kindness and camaraderie, along with the mix of poets from around the world, creates an atmosphere of peace and love for all.
PP – Do you have any advice for a beginner poet or author?
Myna-
For a beginning poet, I would say, first find out if you are a planner or a pantser. Do you plan your poems or do you write whatever comes to mind? If you are a planner it is very hard to write off the cuff. Conversely if you are a pantser, forcing a poem into a box can be almost impossible. Knowing yourself and your writing style will save you great deal of frustration and heartache; other than that, just write your heart out. If at all possible write every day and write about everything. Challenge yourself and never stop creating.
PP – Do you have a favorite author on Wattpad? What about outside of Wattpad?
Myna-
There are so many truly amazing authors on Wattpad and I seem to find a new one every day. I have to say there are a few authors who have spoken to my heart, AmbergrisJane, Aries-Alief, Bill Temple, AndrewAGreen, MichaelTyger, just to name a few.
Outside of Wattpad I have several that are very dear to my heart:
Bram Stoker – Wrote Dracula my all-time favorite book.
Emily Dickenson – My favorite poet. I would love be able to have her talent of turning a phrase.
Daphne du Maurier – Wrote Rebecca, my second favorite book. Also all of her books have very strong and unique female characters and her writing is as smooth as glass.
Dean Koontz – when I need to get a quick fix for spooky creepy stuff.
Rudyard Kipling – The Jungle Book is part of my childhood and his poetry is out of this world.
Ian Rankin – When I want to read about the home of my soul, Scotland.
Pablo Neruda – My second favorite poet of all time, his words are sublime.PP – You are having dinner part and can invite only 10 authors, living, dead or imaginary; who do you invite?
Myna-
Oh this is a really tough question!! So here goes:
Bram Stoker, that is a given, LOL.
Mary Shelly, I would absolutely love to discuss Frankenstein and Dracula with her and Mr. Stoker.
Emily Dickenson, another given!
Robert Burns – I would love to hear about Scotland from a true Scottish poet.
William Shakespeare – he was just so brilliant and knew how to use words to their fullest.
Margaret Weis and Tracey Hickman – They wrote the Dragonlance series, and my favorite fictional character Rasitlin Majere.
Dean Koontz – I would pick his brain about his Odd Thomas series.
Ian Rankin – Another Scotsman could never hurt.
AmbergrisJane – her poetry has become some of my favorites and I admire her greatly!PP – Do you have anything else you would like to add?
Myna-
I would like to say thank you to Bill Temple. He has become a great mentor and friend, who believes in me and has challenged me to become a better poet. The Poets Pub has become my cyber home away from home and I only wish I could thank every one of you in person and tell you what your kindness and talent mean to me. I am humbled and in awe of this group of people. This is a place where you can truly find Humans loving Humans.
