Chapter 6

Rem cried out in shock. He saw Luca next to him with a look of terror on his face. He felt his head being pulled away from the ground and a knife placed over his throat, or at least something sharp. His body froze from panic. The adrenaline pumped itself through his body like it had never done so. His head raced with a million thoughts a minute. Who was the person on top of him? Why were they going to kill him? What if they hurt Luca?

He struggled against the weight of his attacker but he couldn't budge. The person was just too heavy. It didn't make sense to him, Rem was strong. There wasn't a lot of things he couldn't pick up, so what was on top of him? Was it even a person?

"Move and you're dead. Now tell me, what are you doing here, mutt?" The person threatened.

Rem hated being called a mutt. His face turned red and he struggled to get free even harder. He might as well be dead if he was going to let someone disrespect him like that. He was future alpha and leader of The City Of The Moon, didn't the person know who they were talking to?

"Better watch it Dog-boy. Struggle to much and your head might become mine." The person hissed, pressing the knife harder to Rem's neck.

"Shut up! What is wrong with you? How dare you disrespect me like that! I'll kill you!" Rem shouted, his face teeming with an expression of anger. He pushed more and more to be free from the persons hold when he pushed the human off him and jumped on his stomach. He bit down onto the person's neck, trying to kill them.

Rem was taught in his school to aim for the throat, the organs there are vital to survival and if hit right can be fatal. When Rem bit down he realized he didn't even puncture skin. Instead he felt something hard and rough. He lifted his head up at the un-amused dragon. Rem gasped in shock. A dragon! Although the dragon was in their more human-like form, Rem could still realize it. Dragons had not been seen for many millennia, they hide away when the different races had divided long ago and had never come out.

"W-wha-" Rem stammered, moving away backwards.

"Yes, I'm a dragon. Whoop-de-doo. Now that we got that out of the way," The dragon hissed, showing Rem the knife in his pocket, "What are you doing here? This is the territory of dragons you know."

Rem stared at the dragon in amazement. It was even more beautiful than the stories. Their scales were a gleaming red, seeming to shine a million shades at once. Their eyes a deep, deep black, looking like they were sucking in every ounce of light. Their horns were tall and mighty, not having a scratch or mark on them. They looked perfect.

"Well? Get on with it dog." The dragon insulted, reminding Rem that they were to be hated.

"We don't mean harm, but you obviously do," Rem sneered, pointing at the dragon's knife, "My people are sick. They're dying and we're trying to find a cure. Not that it's your business."

The dragon nodded in amusement. Did they think this was just a game? They didn't seem to be taking Rem seriously at all.

"Names Sobek. And yours and your friend?" Sobek asked, pointing at Luca.

"I'm Remus, Rem for short. That's Luca."

Luca still had an expression of terror on his face. Rem couldn't blame him, this is the first dragon that's been seen since the ancients. Anyone would be shocked and a little terrified, especially after their first encounter with them.

Sobek nodded, seeming to give a gaze of approval, "What are your people sick with?"

"We don't know. It starts out as a common illness, then it progresses. People cough up slugs and shout things and glow colors. It's terrifying and it's killing people like crazy. As the future leader I deci-" Rem tried to say before being interrupted.

"Blood rot. Your people are sick with Blood Rot. My people had it long ago but a little bit of an herbal medicine and it went away." Sobek explained, putting his knife back into its sheath and putting it away.

"That's it? Some herbs?"

"Yep. And I'm assuming you want them?"

"Well obviously."

"Good. I'll take you to my city and we can get them for you."

Rem stared at Sobek in shock. Just like that? This had to be a trick. Luca walked over to Rem and held onto his arm. He was shaking like a leaf. He could hear the faintest whisper of, "Please, please, please don't trust them."

Rem knew Luca always had his feelings, and he should definitely trust him.

"I don't think we trust you, especially after you tried to kill me. What gives us a reason to, Sobek?" Rem quarreled, saying Sobek's name as an insult.

"Watch it buddy. There's a lot more knives than just that one. Would be a shame if i took your friends head as a trophy," Sobek hissed, staring into the eyes of Luca, "I'm not going to hurt you. I only tried to kill you because you're on our territory. Do you want a cure or not?"

Rem glared at Sobek, "Fine. Luca, let's go buddy."

Rem took Luca's hand as Sobek started off walking ahead of them. He wasn't going to let Luca out of his sight, especially after the comment Sobek had made. He loved Luca way too much to willingly let him get hurt.

Luca was still trembling, so Rem picked him up and held him in front of his body. Luca rested his head on Rem's shoulder, and soon Rem could hear him snoring. Luca really wasn't all that heavy, Rem could probably carry him for hours. Luca sleeping was a blessing, as he hates seeing his friend cry and people fighting always did make him cry.

"Come on slowpoke. You're trailing behind." Sobek teased, walking backwards to face Rem.

"Watch out, tree," Rem teased back, although there was no tree and he thought it was funny to see Sobek twisted around and try to dodge something that wasn't there.

Sobek laughed, maybe he wasn't too bad afterall. Even if he was,a t least he had a sense of humor.

Rem realized the hidden city wasn't that far at all. It shouldn't be too long until the reach it. Rem liked the thought of that. Perhaps his pack and the dragons could become great friends.
