Chapter 7
Rem saw the kingdom nearing in the distance. Its walls were a beautiful gold, the top of the castle shining in the sunlight. Marble was everywhere, the contrast of the gold making the place have a high sense of royalty. Rem felt out of place in his clothes that were impossibly dirty and how much he probably stinks. His mom would've yelled at him if she found out he was going to a place of such fanciness in his dirty muddy clothes. Rem had only now realized how much he missed him mom. He normally didn't even go 2 hours without talking to her, two days? His mom must be worried sick.
"Now... there's something I probably should've told you..." Sobek whispered, a sense of nervousness tracing in his voice.
"Oh gods... what is it?" Rem asked, himself becoming anxious and nervous as well.
"Well... I maybe got outcasted a few years ago... I'm a rogue? They'll probably try and kill us." Sobek muttered, entering the palace gates and shutting it behind them.
Rem stopped in his tracks, "Are you serious?"
Sobek weakly smiled and dragged Rem long by the shoulder. Rem couldn't believe what was happening. He should've trusted Luca. Luca always knew what to do and now there was a chance Rem just got himself and his best friend killed. He felt so stupid, a wave of embarrasment washing over him. How could he have even thought for a second that the dragon that had tried to kill him could be trusted?
He caught sight of a few dragons walking along a trail. Sobek grabbed him and dragged him behind a house. The adrenaline in Rem's body pumped through his blood like it was the only fluid there. Rem shook Luca in his arms to wake him up. It would be better to wake him up so they could hide easier and Luca could use his magic to help them.
"Luca... Luca... wake up please." Rem whispered, urgency in his voice.
Luca grumbled and opened his eyes. He looked around and he lit up with astonishment.
"I-is this-?" He started, talking very loudly.
"Shhh!" Rem and Sobek quieted, Rem placing a hand over Luca's mouth, "Yes, we have to be very quiet. Turns out Sobek is a filthy liar and is a rogue dragon who would be killed should they be seen by the dragons here,"
Lucas eyes stayed still for a few moments before he started to cry. He tried his best to cry silent tears, but to no avail he started wailing. Rem felt like a total jerk. How could he let his best friend whom he loved so dearly be killed? Rem stared at the ground listening to the sobs of Luca. He had never heard anything so miserable sounding or so in pain before. He felt he might cry himself.
"Look, I'm sorry-" Sobek started, being interrupted by Luca.
"SORRY?! How can you say you're sorry? You killed us! You royally killed all of us!" Luca shouted, his eyes turning bright red with anger. He stood up with a flash and wrapped his hands around Sobek's throat.
Rem couldn't move, he couldn't think. He could hardly believe himself that Luca was choking a dragon and winning. Luca's hands wrapped tighter and tighter until they heard a footstep behind them. Rem turned around on instinct and saw a palace guard of the dragon castle watching them.
Rem stood up, grabbed Luca, and started to run. Sobek was close behind. They could hear the shouts and cries of the guard and the heavily paced footsteps but Rem paid no attention. The only thing he thought of in the moment was getting Luca to safety. It was his fault Luca had come along and it was Rem's fault that he allowed Sobek to lead them to the palace. If anyone would be making it out alive he was going to be sure it was Luca.
Rem was spotted by more and more guards as he ran. He pushed Luca out of the way several times by their sharp spears coated in a strange substance. He felt Luca shaking and crying as they ran, his heart breaking in half at the sound. This day couldn't get any worse.
Luca started to slow, out of breath and tired. Rem picked him up and found Luca over his back. He couldn't see sobek anymore but he frankly didn't care. He hoped the liar of a dragon was dead. He vowed to himself that should he make it out of here, he would never ever trust a dragon ever again. He didn;t even know where the cure was being held and a swarm of angry, blood-thirsty dragons were after him.
Rem saw an alleyway, and turned down to help escape the guards. He knew it probably wouldn't do much as they most likely knew the kingdom like the back of their hand, but it could buy them some time. The guards were brought back by a few feet but not by much. Rem kept running until he realized there were also guard coming from the front of him as well. He was trapped and cornered.
The fear erupted in him like a volcano, slowly at first then all at once. He started to cry himself, stopping in his steps, his back pressed against the wall as he held Luca. He was more scared than he had ever been in his life.
"P-please! All i want is a cure! My people are sick! They're dying!" Rem pleaded, staring at the dragons that now surrounded them. He noticed one of them was carrying Sobek's dead body.
"No can do, dogboy. We don't take too kindly to intruders," One of the guard dragons, who Rem assumed to be the leader, sneered.
Rem fell to the ground, Luca still in his arms. He held tightly onto him and sobbed. He had killed them. They were long dead already.
The dragons closed in on them, their spears aimed and ready to strike. Rem covered Luca with his body, as he felt the spear sink into his back. He had never experienced anything more painful. He couldn't put words to describe the pain, only that it burned and it felt like he was ripping apart. His eyes were wide open with shock, his mouth agape.
Rem stared into Luca's eyes one last time, his perfect green eyes. Luca's face red with tears and fear only stared back. Rem felt woozy and tired. He knew he was going to die, the spear had been coated with the juice from the Fairymoss plant, it'd kill anyone.
"B-bye L-luca, I love you." Rem stammered, before his vision went black, his head resting on Luca's stomach. His final resting place.
