Sparta's POV - 3 Months Ago:
"They say that there is an assassin among the people of Glacia. I for one, do not believe that the people of our kingdom are capable of the skills that this assassin has." Many of the officials nodded their agreement. I clenched my fists at the statement. Though I was now a palace guard, I had been born and raised in the slums of Glacia.
General Cain was foolish to believe that the people of Glacia were not able enough to defend and kill.
A gloved hand rested on my shoulder. I looked back to see who it was. It was Wren, my best and only friend within the palace.
"Sparta. Your shift is over," he looked at me with a concerned expression,"You should get some rest you look exhausted." I nodded and stalked off. Honestly I had been avoiding Wren the past few weeks. I hadn't had a light conversation with him since th-
I had run into a wall. I looked around and a nearby maid giggled. I smiled sheepishly and turned the corner towards the guard quarters. I could have I had seen something outside. As I walked into the common room I heard soft footsteps. I shrugged it off assuming it was a maid. Boy, was I wrong.

Tessa's POV:
I scaled the palace wall easily. The King's court and army officials were attending a feast and most guards were on the opposite side of the huge castle. It was far too easy to get into the palace.
As I reached the third story window I paused. As I peered over the window I saw a man. A place guard, by the look of his uniform.
He began to walk toward the window and I felt my stomach twist into a knot. Not because the fact that he most likely SAW me but that.. well I wasn't quite sure what else but that wasn't necessarily important. I had more serious problems to worry about. Like um I don't know... maybe the armed palace guard twice my size heading straight toward my freaking hiding spot.
Then, of course, he made a right turn into the guard quarters common room. Stupid, stupid, stupid I should have known better and taken more caution. I muttered a silent thanks to no one in particular. I climbed through the window after making sure that nobody would walk down the hall and turn me in.
I had a mission and nobody would stop me.
