2 Months and 14 Days ago

Tessa's POV: I woke up in utter darkness. At first I had thought I'd been blinded but to my relief I saw the faint outline of my hand in front if me.

"Good morning." A sad voice said to me outside from my... cell? I looked out from the metal bars and saw Marylin. In all this chaos I had totally forgotten her in the past few days. I felt ashamed that I hadnt even thought of her. She smiled sadly at me and offered a tray of what looked like old bread and pumpkin juice. I reached for the tray and winced in pain. I rubbed the back of my head. It was sore when that stupid Sparta knocked me out unconcious.

"How long have I been out?" I asked Marylin. She sighed,"Only a day."

"Only a day? How is that only?"

"Well... considering you got punched in the back of the head by a palace guard you're lucky to have woken up at all." This felt like a dream... How had I let myself be discovered... Sparta shouldn't have been a threat at all. It was all happening so quickly. If I had been arrested for what I thought then I was sure to be executed within days.

"Would've been better off if I hadn't." I muttered to myself.

"What was that?" Marylin seemed awfully calm for talking to a supposed assassin she had barely just met.

"Nothing." I grumbled. She raised an eyebrow skeptically. She kneeled down in front of my cell. A wicked grin on her ever so innocent face.

"I believe it's time to formally introduce myself." She pulled a familiar silver mask out of her apron. I let out a gasp.

"How did you get that? Isn't it crime scene evidence?" She smirked.

"Oh Tessa, I would've thought you'd be a little smarter than that." Marylin made no sense.

"Hint: I'm not really a scullery maid."

"Do you expect me to believe you're the assassin?" She nodded and laughed. This was a serious matter how dare she laugh and point at me?

"But her hair was black." I recalled. She pulled out a small container of black ointment. She opened it and applied some of it to her golden hair. It looked so realistic if I hadn't known any better I would've assumed it to be normal.

"So, I came to introduce the real me and to thank you." I was fuming. She curtsied and I ran up to the bars angrily trying to scratch her too perfect face.

She twirled and left me in the darkness of my cell to ponder over this news.

Mere minutes later another person entered the room.

Sparta's POV:
The maid Marylin had just left as I entered the dungeons. I honestly felt guilty for having told the captain of the assassin's identity. It did not help to see her in such a horrible state. She looked to be unconscious. I sighed and sat down on a bench for the guards near the exit to the dungeons.

She did not look like a killer. Nor did she seem to have the personality of one. But those who broke the law were trained to deceive. I had only seen her from a distance and all the evidence led up to her.

She then turned and glared bitterly at me.

"I really didn't think you would try and turn me in. But I would just like to let you know, you turned in the wrong person. I'm not the assassin." She seemed so broken. It had literally only been two days in the dungeons... she definitely did not seem suitable enough to be an assassin.

She tilted her head in confusion as a thought occurred to her. "I know you caught me in the office, but how on earth did you know about the mask?" Mask? What mask?

"What mask are you talking about? I never told the captain about a mask."

Tessa's POV:
He didn't know about the mask so who did? I could only assume it to be Marylin. Before I could inquire Sparta he left the dungeon. If I could convince him enough of my innocence he could be my ticket to freedom.

Hooray! I finally released my update. I literally had it sitting there waiting for the simple 40 views. I literally held out this long to prove a point. Anyhow I would like to buy time once more to write my next update so no updates until 40 views 😊
Thank you for reading this, honestly it's going to crash and burn soon...
