"Right, well I guess we're partners." He looked at her with a smirk.
"I can do this alone. It's no big deal. Just write your name down on the paper at the end." She wasn't really comfortable working in groups or with a partner to slow her down.
"That's not fair to either of us. How about I give you my number to go with the name." He smiled at how clever he was.
"Sure. If it floats your goat." She looked at the floor while he wrote his name.
She looked at the paper that she gingerly grabbed from him to see the message he had so graciously included:
"Glad that me and you are paired together."
"It's you and I." She said, in the general direction that he was walking in despite knowing he might not be able to hear her.
"You got that right." He responded over his shoulder, pushing open the door of the school building.
