Kao's POV
I was practically crying with happiness when my father informed me that the son of the owner of the off campus dormitory had agreed to temporarily rent out his room to me.
My father and I had stopped by a temple and lighted several incense candles and I had prayed really hard to be able to stay in that house which was so conveniently close to the university that I had transferred to.
I had spent my first two years at the local university in my hometown but unfortunately, this local university did not have the major course that I wanted to take so I was forced to transfer two cities farther away which had a university that offered the major course that I wanted to take.
Also, unfortunately, that university did not respond to my application quickly enough, so that by the time I received their acceptance letter, all the units in the campus dorm had been filled up.
My father and I had tried looking up other nearby dormitories and boarding houses but we were out of luck. All units and rooms had been rented out.
Then my father had a bright idea. We should contact the owner of the off campus dorm that was only a few minutes walk from the university. My father and I were both aware of the dorm units being all occupied but my father wondered if the landlady just might have an empty room in her own private residence which was attached to her dormitory.
She indeed had an empty room which was temporarily empty because her son who was of college age had gone off to study abroad. The only obstacle to hurdle was getting the son's permission to temporarily allow his room to be rented out while he was out of the country. My father and I had to wait till the following day before the landlady, a Mrs. Namwirote, could confirm with us whether I could rent the room or not.
I gave my father a tight hug, which I usually don't do, after he gave me the good news. I was so grateful to the landlady's son, whoever he was, for generously allowing his room to be temporarily rented out to me.
My father and I immediately went to the landlady's office and paid for the background check fee. We would know if my background check would come back clear by the next day. Another day of waiting, but I didn't mind because I knew that it would come back clear and then all we had left to do was to pay the rent two months in advance and for the current month.
