Authors Note: The word 'then' that you see before a chapter starts is to tell the reader (you) what character you are following. In this book you will be following two different characters. It will be mostly focused on the 'Now' chapters, but then helps to explain what and why things happen in the 'Now' chapters

Chapter 3:

Then.

Pain. Torture. Torment.

All are consequences. There was no mercy. No pity. Your consequences got had no grace. It was aloud because it was 'suppose' to fit as their justice. They get their pay back for what their children have done. Just the spill of a glass of milk could lead you to be locked away for a decade. You live forever so it doesn't seem to be as long as it would for a human.

Back in time Cym wanted a phone. A cell phone just like her other friends. She wanted a way to communicate with her friends out of school. Cell phones where just coming out at this time so Cym's parents wouldn't be able to afford it.

"May I have a phone?" Cym asked.

Her parents really thought about it, but knowing there was no way to pay for it. They discussed it through their minds hoping that Cym hadn't figured out how to do that yet.

"I’m sorry child, no. We simply just can't afford it." She replied.

"Common mom. I'll help pay for it." Cym said.

"PLEASE"

"No." Her mother uttered.

"Fine, I HATE YOU!" she said running off.

Cym was so disappointed. Though she was beautiful she felt empty. She just wanted to fit in. Feel the love that her other friends felt. They could just call each other and ask to hang out. Just take the horse that ever family owned. Every family except for hers.

Cym knew her family was different. She could feel it. When her parents were mad or we were mad they would be parted. Parted in distances as big as countries. She didn't know why and didn't know it was a benefit to her. They were protecting her. They needed her to be safe. And if her parents where to split that would kill her. Cym's beastly side would appear. It wasn't what her parents wanted for her and her parents love each other and wouldn't want to split up anyways.

"I can't believe they won't buy one for me. It's just a phone. You have one, Chris has one. Why not Me." she said to her friend through the line of her family phone.

"Trust me, they aren't all that." She said.

"Really?"

"No they are, but who cares." Her friend added.

"This sucks. I'm going to get a job and buy my own. Who do they think they are." she said.

"Y ea well I have to go for dinner I'll see you tomorrow."

"Bye." Cym replied before hanging up the phone.

Cym ran down the stairs to show off to her sibling that she was getting a job. Her brother yelled at her telling her she was too young and that she was stupid and could never be higher. Cym slapped his face and walked away.

A few minutes later her mother called her over.

"Cym did you slap your brother?" she asked having the evidence right in front of her.

Cym left a huge welt upon her brother’s cheek. This was when Cym realized that there was something wrong with her. The surface of the welt was covered with aqua coloured fungus growing upon his it. Cym screamed. Her mother knew perfectly well what it was. Only a creature like her can make marks like that.

"I'm so sorry. Just kill me. I can't believe I did that! What have I done!!” She shouted in panic.

"Don’t be so frantic. You are most definitely in trouble though. You are foolish and dim witted." She said as she took care of her son.

"You promised you wouldn't hit anyone and now I know you aren't getting a phone." She said.

She needed to change her tone of voice to angry as though she didn't know what was going on with her brother. She couldn't seem like she knew everything was okay. Though she knows, she must lie.

Cym struck her mother with her hand and slapped her across the face. Cym didn’t realize what she had done though. Ever head of the story Rapunzel? Well that is exactly what happened.

Cym was now locked away in the top of a building for a long time. Cym spent her hours knitting scarves and sweaters, writing stories, and thinking of what she had done wrong.

Like I said. Back then there is no such thing as forgiveness.

Authors Note: All of the Then chapters will be shorter than the now. Its difficult to write then, but it’s better for my readers to understand what’s happening or going to happen.
