Chapter 2:
Now
Kiara is a new monster. She doesn’t know it yet, but soon enough she will. Her parents Melanie and David refuse to tell her about her ancestry and her legacy. They don’t want to hurt her by telling her she is abnormal. She would be furious and she doesn’t want to be like the other monsters. After a couple days get hurt and then kill everyone in the town. Thing is, this family is different. They are the only family with these legacies since 1921. This means their powers haven’t been used over time, so they have saved it all for this generation. This generation will be the strongest and might be the last.
Melanie and David don’t want this family to be like the others. And knowing it might be the last, they have to protect it. They have decided to keep the family gifts hidden from Kiara and her siblings Victor, Sebastian, and Flora. Her parents were quiet concerned that their youngest Victor might find out because he is the most curious and devious out of the whole pack. He finds out every year what he is getting for Christmas, finds out what he is getting for his birthday, and also finds out all the secrets and surprises of the family. Victor knows how to keep his mouth shut though. He has been keeping secrets about himself, and his siblings from his parents for years.
“Mom what are we going to do when school comes? You haven’t even enrolled me yet.” Kiara asked feeling disappointed.
Her last school didn’t turn out great so she moved. It was a lucky time though. A child was making fun of her and thanks to her great personality of not really caring what other people thought, she punched him and beat him up until she ended up getting expelled. When moving it made the parents have second thoughts.
“School isn’t such a good idea for the kids.” Melanie thought.
“Sweetheart. You father and I have discussed this and have decided that school isn’t a very good idea for you guys this semester. We have agreed that we would home school you until the time is right.” She elucidated.
Melanie only wanted her kids to be carefree, happy and to have a normal life. She wanted her kids to be the way all of the other human kids where, but she can’t choose the genes she gives out. It was just that Melanie understood the pain and troubles of being such a savage. She knows how it feels to always be hungry for human flesh. It took her years to change to vegetarian. As did her father. David took much longer though. But when David got changed it was devastation rather than pain. It was his parent’s separation that changed him. David had observed his parents fight and had always imagined finding the love that his parents shared. He was heartbroken. Torn apart. Anguished. David took his anger out on his parents. He had a great battle with them and ended up killing both. David still has battle wounds upon his arms. No longer having his parents in his life cause even more pain so it took him an endless amount of time for the pain to go away. His aching pain still lingers.
Melanie on the other hand had a completely different story. Despite it was nowhere near as upsetting as David’s. Melanie became her true self quite young though. In grade 6 Melanie was reading at a higher age group than any other student in her school. Her parents couldn’t afford books and electronics. Her parents where poor and where angry drunks. Melanie went to school one day and her favorite teacher Mrs. Porter gave her a book. It wasn’t just any book though. It was the book her teacher treasured so much. It was the book that her teacher brings up in all the class discussions. Melanie took it home and read it all in the first night. She didn’t have any other books so she read that one over and over. Her parents no longer saw her, except for meal times. Her parents burned the book. Burned the book that changed Melanie’s mind about racism. The book that brought David and her together. She was destroyed. She instantly changed. Also killing her parents, she was alone.
“But mom. You just can’t. You can’t do this to me! I’ve been looking forward to this all summer. I promise not to hit anyone!” Kiara pleaded.
“The decision is final. Go to bed.”
Kiara stomped off to her bedroom without another word. She wanted to know a proper answer. All of the other kids could go, but why couldn’t she? That was all she wanted to know. Kiara is one of those girls who don’t take no for an answer, and if she does get a no its for a good reason. In this case she got a no and no explanation. Life was hard, for all the family.
Melanie told David to to tell Sebastian and Victor about school. Luckily for them Sebastian and Victor are a little less dramatic. That’s also because Kiara is in her teenage years and it going through a lot of changes in her life. Sebastian on the other hand was already 19. Sebastian is an attractive young man who all the girls fall to their knees for. The thing with Sebastian though is that he is respectful of women. He believes that they are equal he believe that he should treat everyone with kindness. All through his life he took everything seriously that people told him. He listened the first time he was told something. That’s another thing. He takes everything seriously. He couldn’t really take sarcasm very well. Even if he did have a hard time making friends at first, it got easier through time. Sebastian tried out for all the sports and was amazing. His looks, athletics, and intelligence bought everyone. He was a very popular boy, but his brother kind of took him down.
Victor is a 12 year-old boy with a lot of spunk. I guess you could say he is a class clown. He on the other hand is a girl chaser. Him and the rest of his siblings are all good-looking people. He is one of them, so it’s kind of in his jeans to be captivating. He was irresistible to all of the girls in his class. Although he was beautiful, he still was a little bit of an airhead. He was never good with school, had always made stupid decisions, and was a very disrespectful kid. He never really found a girl he actually liked. He was just a very crude child. He had a lot of friends though, so it didn’t bother him.
Flora on the other hand is completely different from all of her siblings. She is very closed up. She is quite calm and tranquil. She doesn’t show much emotion around her family. She isn’t the innocent type though. She has kind of a scene look to her. Not really emo, but not indie either. She has long jet-black hair with pink highlighted tips. Flora is a good kid, but has a unique style. She is 14 and at the age of starting to find yourself. So that is all she is trying to do.
The family is different and all have different styles. Melanie and David have their background story and soon enough will see Kiara’s, Flora’s, Victors, and Sebastians.
