We walked out of the gates of the school, and I looked to the left. Sure enough, my motorbike was still parked on the side of the road. I nudged Umeji in the arm, since he was looking off into the distance, just spacing out. He snapped back into reality, peering over at it.
"Took me three years of saving, and all my birthday money since I was 8," I said, crossing my arms, "But I had to get one when I got my license." I pulled the keys from my skirt pocket, walking to the bike, sticking the keys in the ignition. The bike roared to life, the engine starting.
I pulled a hairband from my pocket, tying my hair back so I wouldn't get a super bad case of Helmet Hair. I tossed my spare helmet to Umeji, putting my own on. I knew which was which, since mine had a spray painted dragon on the one side; the spare doesn't have a design yet.
I got on the bike, revving the engine a little. Umeji put the spare on, but seemingly didn't know where to go from there. "So, Uh..." he shoved his hands in his pockets, looking sideways, "I've never rode a Motorcycle with another person before, so I don't know how this goes."
I nodded a little, smiling beneath the tinted visor. "Alright, just get on the back of the bike behind me, and wrap your arms around my waist so you don't fly off; this thing doesn't exactly have seatbelts."
"Ah...okay, I guess." He got on the back, slowly wrapping his arms around my waist. "Like this, right?" For once, his voice sounded a little bit less sure.
"Yeah, you got it." I nod, revving the engine again. "Now hang on; I don't want you to fly off or something." I start driving, turning into the street.
Immediately as I pick up speed, since the road was absolutely empty, Umeji hung on for dear life, leaning into my back. I yelled back to him, in an attempt to get him to relax.
"Hey, take a few deep breaths, man..!" I smiled back at him, slowing down just enough to the point where I could look over at him. His eyes were squeezed shut, as I could see through the visor. I slowed down a little more, nudging him with my shoulder. "It's a lot less scary if you open your eyes..!"
I turned back to look on the road, and I felt his arms relax a little, feeling a little less weight on my back. I could hear some light laughter escape him, and I could feel my heart speed up a little. Probably Adrenalin.
We finally got to my house, and the Motorbike slowed to a stop. I kicked out the kickstand after I pulled into the driveway. I took of my helmet, undoing the hairband keeping my hair back. I tied the hairband around my wrist, stretching a little. Umeji took his off. He had a slightly dazed expression on his face, and his hair was somehow messier than it usually was.
Okay, maybe THAT time wasn't totally adrenaline.
I lightly nudged him in the shoulder with my elbow, flashing a light smile. "First time riding a motorbike?" I took the helmet from him, sitting it on the back of the bike with the other one. "Don't worry, you'll get used to it eventually; If you're lucky, I might let you sit in the front and steer."
He finally snaps out of the daze he was in, crossing his arms, looking to the side. "Psh! Nah..!" He mutters, still not meeting my eyes. "I ride all the time! I just borrow the bike off of some dude in class-"
I cut him off, raising an eyebrow. "C'mon, 'Mej, you don't need to impress anyone." I motion for him to follow me as I walk up the driveway, "I was scared my first time on the road as well."
I unlocked the door, walking inside, Umeji following behind me. I ruffled my hair a little, cracking my neck. "Alright, just sit down anywhere; I'm changing out of this goddamn uniform."
