"Well..." He started.
"Well, what?" She mocked, scooting closer to him.
"I'm just going to say it." He blurted out, "I like you... like, a lot." She smiled at him, "And, I didn't know how to tell you, and I didn't want to ruin our friendship, but when I had to kiss you out there, I got excited and couldn't help myself." He rambled, shyly. "A-and... I'm sorry if you didn't like it." He sighed.
Her response was pulling him into a kiss, holding her hand up to his cheek. "Mike," She cut off the kiss, "I like you too."
"R-really?" He stuttered, "Because everything I said earlier was just me trying to be bold. I'm actually really nervous."
She smiled and shook her head, "Wait, how did you think this would ruin our friend?" She asked with concern in her voice, "Micheal, you're my best friend. No one and nothing can or will change that, I promise."
"Y- yeah, I know. I just..." He trailed off, "I don't know."
"Yes you do." El dry chuckled, "What is it?"
"I thought you liked Dustin!" Mike blurted out, El immediately feeling nauseous at the thought of liking Dustin.
"Dude! Dustin is like my brother, ew!"
"Well, I didn't know!" He shrugged. El laughed and Mike laughed with her.
"Wait!" El perked up from her laughter, creating a confused look on Mike's face.
"What?" He asked. She stood up, walking over to her jacket that she threw on the floor due to her previous activities with Mike.
She looked into one of her pockets, taking out her phone, "This!" El squealed, "I can call someone."
Mike scoffed, "Who? Our friends are the ones who trapped us here."
"Hop isn't you guys' friend. That's for damn sure." El started dialing Hoppers number, but Mike took the phone out of her hand. "Hey! Give it back."
"What do you think the Chief, your father, my worst nightmare is going to do if he catches us in a closet together?" Mike emphasized his words so they could ring a bell in El's mind.
She sighed, crossing her arms, "Then who do we call?"
"Oh! We can try calling Nancy." He suggested, "Wait, no, she lives in another state." He frowned.
"That reminds me. How is Nancy doing? I know her moving wasn't easy for you."
"She's good. Dating Will's brother." He shrugged, sitting down again. "You know, Jonathan."
"Yeah." She nodded, sitting down in her previous spot next to Mike, "And how are you holding up? I know it's been a few months."
"I-I'm fine." He nodded, looking over at El's worried eyes. "My parents have been fighting more often and bringing Holly into it. I just try to, like, play dolls with her to keep her mind off of it." El nodded, showing him he could continue if he wanted.
"And, I'm scared for when I move out next year that she won't be able to handle it." He sighed, putting his hands to his face, "I feel like I just have this weight on my shoulders, and I just want a break."
"I understand, Mike. But don't worry, Holly is a tough little girl, she'll get through it. Remember when she stood up for me because you were being unfair about the last Eggo?"
Mike chucked, "Yeah."
"Mike! I called it!" El yelled at her best friend, Mike. They were 13 and fighting over an Eggo.
"It's my house. My Eggo." He reasoned. She snatched it out of his hand and he scoffed, "Leggo my Eggo."
"Oh, would you guys shut up." Holly said coming into the kitchen where Mike and El were currently fighting, "El called it, just give her the Eggo."
El turned to Holly then to Mike, "Well... You heard the girl. Give me the damn Eggo."
"What? No!" He argued. Holly rolled her eyes.
"Mommy! Mike hit me!" She yelled, smirking at him, "Now, give it to her, or else I'll tell mom you hit El too."
Mike groaned and tossed El the Eggo. El put the Eggo in the toaster, not before giving Holly a high five first.
They both laughed at the memory, "See? Holly helped me get an Eggo. I am forever in her debt."
"Whatever, it was MY Eggo."
"Don't start. It was mine." El giggled, "Anyways, what I'm trying to say is that, Holly is tough. You don't have to worry about her. The most important thing right now is you."
"Yeah... Yeah, you're right." He nodded.
"Plus I'm going to a local college so if anything happens, I'll come rescue her." El joked to lighten the mood.
Mike laughed along, "Yup. Thanks, El."
She sighed with a smile, "No need to thank me."
