"Steven."
Steven murmured nonsense and turned over in bed. Whoever this was, he didn't want to deal with them. He just wanted to sleep.
"Steven," the voice said more urgently. Steven muttered a "no" and pulled the blanket further over his head.
"Hey, Universe." She said.
THEN Steven recognized the voice. He nearly jumped right out of bed as he sat up suddenly and stared at the twintailed gem that stood before him, her inverted heart-shaped gem shimmering in the moonlight.
"S-S-S-Spinel..?! What are you doing here..?!" Steven whisper-shouted, very uncomfortable.
Spinel's arm made a rubbery sound as she brought a finger to her lips to hush the boy. "We gotta be quiet. Let's go."
Steven didn't move. "Go..? Go where?"
"You'll see. Just get your jacket and follow me," Spinel urged, an irritated tone in her voice.
Steven slowly moved his blanket to the side and turned to get out of bed. "Jacket? Why? It's the middle of Summer."
Spinel waved him off. "You ask too many questions. Hurry up and get dressed, then meet me in the greenhouse."
"Which greenhouse?" Steven asked, deciding to play dumb with her.
Spinel facepalmed. "The one with the warp in it, you dingus. Meet me there."
Steven chuckled.
----
The warp pad jingled as they landed. Steven regained his balance. "So, tell me again why you're covering my eyes?"
Spinel led Steven off of the warp, one of her arms wrapped firmly around his head like a blindfold. Her other hand was held tightly in his so she could guide him.
The snow crunched beneath them as they walked. "Because the place I'm bringing you is a surprise," Spinel said, a little bit of pride in her voice.
"I already know we're up north. Why else would there be snow under us in the middle of summer?" Steven responded.
"You don't know it's snow."
"It's freezing, Spinel."
"Aw, you ignored my rhythmic timing. How rude," Spinel teased.
The two kept walking for a little while, before finally, Spinel's boots squeaked quietly as they came to a halt.
Steven stood, still blindfolded. "Um. Why are we stopping?" he asked, dumbfounded.
He heard the sound of a gem jingle, and he jumped back, Spinel still able to keep him blindfolded. "Woah! That better not be a weapon!"
"Are you kidding?" Spinel laughed. "Of course not."
Fabric whooshed, and Spinel maneuvered Steven over. "Sit," she said. Steven complied, sitting on the warm blanket underneath him.
Spinel shuffled around before sitting next to him, her puffy pants squeaking as she sat. "Okay. You ready?"
Steven was hesitant. "I mean, I don't really know what I'm supposed to be getting ready FOR, but, yes..? I think so?"
Spinel chuckled. "No worries. You're gonna love this."
"Three.. Two.. One.."
Spinel retracted her arm to uncover Steven's eyes.
"Look."
