Chapter 1: The lion has roared

The chopper has finally reached the rendezvous point as it landed at a vast area with no flowers or grass, only dirt. Brooks and the others are getting out of the chopper and land their feet at the dirt.

"Thanks for the lift, Alexsandr" Yegor thanked the pilot with a russian accent as the pilot gave a thumbs up before the helicopter slowly lift from the ground and flew away through the air as the sound of the rotating blades slowly died down. Brooks stares at the abandoned city in the distance as he remembers all the tragedy that happens years ago. Once a beautiful city with lots of inhabitants, now turn into pile of debris and inhabitants is no more... Except scavengers

"Reminds me, what's this package again?" Brian inquired

"General said it's a small drive that contain a virus and can corrupt digi-minds of a t-doll and not to mention, it can effect our units as well" Yegor said in a deep voice as he put a marker by the dirt.

"The objective is somewhere in the city, so-"

"Wa-wa-wait, so we have to search it in every building in the city? Isn't that gonna take forever?" Brian cut Yegor's word

"...I'm getting there. We're gonna find it with this detector" Yegor finished his word before he pull out a small gps device that shows the map of the city, the four red dot in the edge of the screen is them and the large yellow dot that located across the screen is the objective. Haruka shows her mischievous smile as she look at the gps. Brooks notices this from behind and gave her a stern look. He feels there's something going on with that woman as he can feel his hairs are tingling all over his body when he gets near. They walked through the empty roadway with their weapons armed and ready. Brian keep his shield up and pistol over the side of the shield as he and the rest of his squadmates following behind him. After 15 minutes walk, they stumble upon a large hotel sitting in front of them as the gps beeping sound gets louder. They move forward to the main entrance of the hotel as the gps screen starts to glitch.

"Dammit..!" Yegor cursed under his helmet as he try to adjust the gps. Brooks stares down at the large debri that blocking the hallway of the hotel.

"Welp, we're not going that way.." Brooks informed as he shined his flashlight at the large rock that blocking the way.

On the other side, Brian tries to look for another way. Seconds past, he found a dark hallway that leads to the unknown. He raised his shield at the dark hallway and pressed the button on the handle of the shield as a bright light flashes from the shield's illuminate the dark hallway and died down in 5 seconds.

"Hey guys, I think I found a way to get pass" Brian called out as they all went over to him and take a brief look.

"Brooks, get us some light" Yegor ordered as brooks raise his flashlight at the dark hallway. They entered the dark hallway with their weapons ready and Brian to lead the way cause he's equipped with ballistic shield. They walk through the dark hallway and finally reached the path that divided into two. Upper floor and the basement. Nothing is ever good about basement or rather what's down there...

"Looks like we're gonna have to divide" Brian said

"Alright, I'll go upstairs with Brooks and Brian and Haruka will check the basement. Got that?" Yegor gave another briefing as he turns to them.

"Roger!" The trio said in unison

"хорошо, give calls when see or spot the objective. I want you all to be careful, keep a look out for closed rooms and tied corners and keep in touch of all times" Yegor said with a doubt yet determined. All from his experience from years back, one or two of his men didn't came back alive or considered dead. He didn't wanna risk that until..

"Hey.. " Brooks tap his shoulder as Yegor's eyes averted to him

"We'll be fine..." Brooks attempting to comfort him. Yegor gave a sigh and returned back to his pace. And with that, they divided into two groups. Upper floor and basement.

"Team Juniper, do you copy?" Brooks called from the radio

["Juniper here, loud and clear!"] Brian's voice echoed from the radio

"Brian, listen. That woman is definitely hiding her fangs, I need you to keep an eye on her if she does anything suspicious" He switch to private channels before saying with a serious face and low voice. A few seconds of silence passed..

["O-Okay, I got it"] Brian finally spoke, but brooks found some doubts in his voice. He sighed before turning off the transmission.

Yegor and Brooks made their way to the upper floor and met with another long dark hallway with doors on the side oof the hall followed by the eerie sounds of cracking floors and metallic screech. Even though this is 10 in the morning, this place looks like a neverending darkness consuming them.

"and... We're going dark" Brooks adjust the brightness of his flashlight and aimed it towards the end of the empty hallway as it illuminates all the doors on the upper floor. Yegor and Brooks proceeded forward, as they reach the end of the hallway they found a metal door that is completely locked tight and sealed what's inside of it.

"Brooks, I let you do the honors" Yegor said with a grin as brooks did too, he approach the door and kneeled down before he lift one of his fingers as a small fire came out of the tip of his index finger. He aimed his index finger at the lockset of the door as the small fire burst slowly cutting through the metal with the sparks flew all over the place. Once he's done with the breach, he pushed the door and reveals a vast area with the servers lining up from aisle to aisle, but the bad news all the data storage are destroyed with the electric sparks all over the servers.

"блять, looks like they destroyed the evidence before someone else could get it" Yegor said with a cursed under his breath before a transmission came in. It's from Brian.

["Team Ruby, this is leader of team Juniper. Do you copy?"] Brian said through the radio

"Leader of Ruby here. What's your status, over?" Brooks responded

["Yeah, I think i found the package that the general needs"] Brian informed as Yegor and Brooks widen their eyes in surprise and relief

"Great! Point us where you are!" Brooks getting straight to the point

["I'm in the-"] Brian's voice is cut by static noise all over the transmission. This made Yegor and Brooks very anxious and shivers

"BRIAN?! BRIAN, COME IN?!" he tried to contact him again but met with nothing but static noises.

"Cyka blyat!"

With that, they rushed down from the upper floor and ran for the basement. They've reach the basement, storming through the pipes and tight gap. As they storms the basement, they found an opened door as they ran inside and found Brian sitting on the ground leaning against the wall with a knife stuck at his shoulder.

"Brian!" They both ran up to him and check on him and make sure he's conscious. Brian groaned in pain as he struggles to lift his arm.

"Don't move! We don't have any medkits, so you have to keep the knife still-" Yegor's word got cut off by Brian's grasp at his shoulder

"S-She took...the....drive" Brian spoke softly before he grunted and lean backwards. Yegor widen his eyes in shock as brooks clenched his fist and gritted his teeth before strom out the room.

"Brooks! Where are you going?!" Yegor yelled as he wrapped Brian's wound with bandages.

"I'm gonna kill that slippery fox" Brooks angrily said as he walked away. Brooks knew something is off and his feelings were right, he know that this would've happened. Now, he got a slippery fox to catch.

Haruka stands near the edge of the balcony as she smiles into the distance and can see the sun in the horizon

"Looks like the lion has roared~"
