I sit in the car, watching the rain drops tap against the window. listening to a Coldplay song letting the sadness in his voice block out mine, sometimes I am afraid if I don't have music I will hear my thoughts to clearly, and my depression will get worse.
Music is my favorite thing in the entire world, everyone always told me that was because of my parents. My parents use to be music teachers, which is ironic considering I am unable to play any instrument, and I never will. Every time I see an instrument it reminds me of them, and the pain that their absence brings me.
The sound of my aunts voice took me back to reality. " Ivy!" I quickly pulled out my headphones irritated by the fact that I had to pause my song.
"yes?" She rolled her eyes. "I swear if you keep playing that music so loud your going to start going deaf soon."
Really? I'm going to go deaf? I'm sorry but I cannot name one indecent of a teenager going deaf from headphones, but I held my tongue. "okay." I said,She flicked her long brown hair off of her shoulder then held tightly to the steering wheel. "This rain is driving me crazy, but during the summer that lake is going to be amazing! A nice small house, small town, just the two of us. You'll get a whole new start!"
It wasn't that I didn't like the new house, the lake, or even the mountains. I knew aunt Linda was trying her best, but the way it all came about was very, very unfortunate.
" Oh common." She playfully pushed my shoulder, letting go of the steering wheel with one hand sending chills down my whole body and I felt anxiety start to over come me. "Aunt Linda! Keep your hands on the wheel!" I shouted breathing heavily. She quickly regained her grip and sighed. " I'm sorry Ivy...." I started to take deep breaths to try and calm my heartbeat, which currently feels as if it is going to Burst from my chest.
We drove by a large sign that read GARENSVILLE 2 MILES. Aunt Linda let out a screech. "We are almost there!"
I heard a voice within me answer her: "Yeah, that is if I don't jump out of the car before we do."
