By definition, Substance Abuse Detoxification is the treatment of a person who has become addicted to a drug. Once addicted, it becomes difficult to stop using the drug. What is Substance Abuse Detoxification? It is a process that focuses on the individual's psychological, physical and social needs to recover from addiction to drugs.
A participant in an inpatient alcohol abuse treatment program is detoxified from the use of alcohol, or any other drug for that matter. The purpose of the program is to allow an individual to get his health back, recover his judgment, resolve conflicts and be the best person he can be again.
Most states have laws that require individuals under their jurisdiction to receive some type of drug rehab rehabilitation program. All states also have laws regulating the prescribing of medication to an addict, but the treatments differ depending on the state.
There are three stages of an inpatient alcohol abuse treatment program: the induction phase, the transition phase and the maintenance phase. They are not separated by time, but treatment is usually conducted over a span of six months or longer. In the induction phase, the addict experiences several stages of withdrawal; this includes vomiting, diarrhea, high body temperature, severe insomnia, sweating, nausea, tremors, thirst, and so on.
During the transition phase, the addict does not normally feel depressed or anxious. However, he is not able to go about everyday functions and shows little interest in activities.
Once an addict has completed the drug rehab rehabilitation, he is assigned a counselor who gives him counseling sessions. The counselor tries to assist the individual in resolving all the problems related to his use of alcohol or drugs. The counselor helps the addict to gain control over his emotions and to make other people understand that his decision to drink or use drugs is wrong.
During the drug rehab rehabilitation, the individual also works on improving his body's level of tolerance to alcohol and drug. This is important for recovering addicts, because they are exposed to risks involve addiction, if a person is not well-tolerated.
During the maintenance phase, the individual needs to keep trying out for treatment and improve his condition. Sometimes, treatment cannot proceed because the person is still suffering from withdrawal symptoms. To overcome these, the individual will need to take medication or therapy.
The drug rehab rehabilitation can last for about three months or more. It should be noted that this can vary from person to person, depending on the individual's condition. Often, a person's body type also plays a role.
An individual in an inpatient drug rehab rehabilitation also faces risks like: the possibilities of failure. Most people who decide to join drug rehab have thought about getting sober for sometime. But once they actually start using drugs, they find themselves caught up in addiction and do not know how to escape.
As you can see, being able to go through this process is a great help for the addict. It may seem easy at first, but in reality, it is a very hard task. Be smart and look for drug rehab.
