--------"You always do this" Adam complained as he sat down on the couch. Christina's first instinct was to join him, but given they were currently arguing, you decided that you should just stay standing.
"All I'm asking is that you listen to me whenever I want to talk. Is that so hard to do? As soon as I open my mouth you assume that I'm going to start an argument, but that's so not true. We shouldn't be fighting all the time." Christina said, shifting uncomfortably due to her swollen ankles. Arguing with Adam was easily Christina's least favorite thing to do with him, especially now that she was 8 months pregnant.
Adam didn't respond to her, pretending to suddenly find his hands very interesting. She absolutely hated when he tried to pretend like she wasn't even there.
"Can you at least look at me when in talking to you?"
Adam just huffed and pinched the bridge of his nose seemingly trying to maintain his composure. It didn't work that well, because he couldn't stop himself from snapping at her.
"Christina, can you just stop for once? Have you ever though that maybe I don't want to talk to you? I get up early and when I come home all I want to do is relax, but I can't do that with you pestering me. I just want some peace and quiet before the baby comes."
Christina was hurt and shocked by what he just said. The worst part was that he didn't seem to be remorseful at all.
"I guess I'll just go out for a bit." Christina mumbled, hoping that Adam would attempt to stop her and apologize for what he just had said.
Christina grabbed her keys and started making her way to the front door, walking slowly to give Adam time to try and stop you. With her hands on the door, she looked over and frowned when she saw that Adam was completely ignoring the fact that you were about to leave an instead paying attention to his phone.
She sat in her car for a little but, just thinking about her relationship with Adam. It was extremely unfair for him to say she annoyed him. While she understood that he worked all day, he needed to understand that she had no choice but to stay home by herself, so it shouldn't bother him that she wanted to talk whenever he got home. If anything, he should be happy that she hasn't left him because lately it seemed like he cared more about work, than her.
Several minutes had passed when she finally decided to start driving. There was no where in particular she wanted to go, but it's not like she wanted to go anywhere. What she wanted was to calm down, and the easiest way to do that would be to just aimlessly drive around. She kept trying to take her mind off Adam, yet all she could think about was him. Well, all she could think about was if it was a good idea to go back home to him. She knew her parents wouldn't mind it if she stayed with then for a free days, but she would have to face Adam eventually.
Completely distracted by her thoughts of him, she didn't notice that the light had changed to green. The last thing she heard was a loud bang before extreme pain radiated through her body and everything went black.

Adam hates this day. He hated a lot of days, but this one was definitely his least favorite. Nobody knew that except for his friends and family, because everyone else just saw him and assumed that he was smiling because he was happy. No, he was smiling because he had to. He had never been a fan of looking weak in front of others, and that was no different when he was in front of Christina's daughter, Aubrey.
"I'm ready" Aubrey said from her car seat in the back. Adam glanced at the rear-view mirror and forced another smile when he saw Aubrey looking at him with an impatient expression.
"Just give me a minute." Adam said softly, loosening the tight grip that he had on the steering wheel, even though the car was parked.
"But I want to go now!" Aubrey complained in a whiny voice. Adam knew he had to give in, otherwise Aubrey would start throwing a tantrum and that was the last that was the last thing that he wanted to deal with right now.
He opened the door and helped Aubrey out, gently grabbing her hand so she wouldn't run ahead.
"Hurry up" Aubrey demanded, tugging on Adams hand to make him walk faster.
Adam didn't give in this time, seeing no need to rush. In fact, he would be perfectly fine with taking as long as possible. He knew that wasn't right though.
"I'm trying" he whispered, speeding up a bit. The closer they got, Adam wanted nothing more than to turn around and go back to the car. He hated doing this every year because it only reminded him that it she just let Christina talk then there would be no need to come visit her here, at her grave.
With her grave in sight, he let go of Aubrey's hand, but didn't let her walk ahead until after he had given her some flowers.
"I'll be right here" Adam murmured looking down at the ground. It was hard every year, but something about this time around was especially difficult.
All Adam could think about was how many more times he'd have to do this with Aubrey. He tried to avoid this place as much as possible, finding it too sad to more than once a year.
Many people criticized him for it, but they didn't understand how hard it was for him to stop himself from completely breaking down.
"Are you going to talk to her?" Aubrey asked curiously. At 5, she didn't necessarily understand the concept of death, something Adam was rather jealous of. It was easy for Aubrey to be happy, and Adam wished he could say the same.
"I can't" Adam said, his voice cracking as tears threatened to fall. He quickly blinked them away, refusing to cry, and ruin the whole day for Aubrey.
"Why not?" Aubrey reached for Adams hand again, waiting for an answer. Adam gave her a sad smile and shrugged, guiding her back to the car.
Once Aubrey was settled in her seat, Adam shut the door and paused for a moment before getting in. He despised himself for not saying anything, remembering how all she wanted to do was talk.
"I'll be back tomorrow, Chrissy." Adam whispered, just like he did every year.
While he would never let himself cry while visiting with Aubrey, he would always come back the day after and let out all of her emotions. He would talk about random things for hours, hoping that she could somehow hear him because now all he wanted to do was talk to her.
