Now, we've all watched a movie or series when the bad guy yells at another character "Bastard!" Then charges and ends up hurt, or vice versa. When originally this insult dates back to the great migration!
BASTARD means "fatherless child," and was commonly used with children whose mothers were "slutty" and got themselves pregnant. Of course this term was used back when women had little to no rights so the reasons would be mainly women selling themselves. Most of the time the child would be left with the mother and the father would be married or not want to marry thus leaving them alone. Other times it was a married couple whose husband divorces the wife, leaving the kid a "BASTARD."
